Denton bolsters college program

ON BOARD: Tenison Wood College High Performance Sports Program (HPSP) head coach and Year 8-12 sports coordinator Ciaran Buckley, HPSP coordinator Kate Exelby, newly appointed HPSP specialist coach Donna Denton, principal David Mezinec and HPE teacher and netball coach Kaitlin Egan are excited by the direction the college is heading with its specialist sports program.

ARGUABLY one of the most decorated netballers in the region Donna Denton has announced her new role at Tenison Woods College.

The star Millicent Netball Club goaler has accepted the position as specialist coach for the college’s High Performance Sports Program (HPSP) netball teams in 2019.

Denton is known all over the South East due to her netball ability and needs little introducing to the sporting community.

She has played over 400 games in the local Western Border Netball Association, in a netball career spanning almost 30 years.

In her time, she has racked up many, team and personal accolades.

A highlight of Denton’s career was her state representation at 19 and Under and 21 and Under levels, along with her selection in the Australian 21 and Under netball squad.

Along with an intimate knowledge of the game, Denton has been actively coaching since 2000 where she led her side to winning the grand final.

Her expertise has also led to another 14 premierships with the Saints, either as playing coach or captain.

Five of these premierships saw Denton receive the best on court award.

The accolades continue to flow with awards including being named in the Western Border netball Team-of-the-Year 18 times, a record breaking nine association best and fairest wins, numerous runner-ups, most consistent player award several times and the list goes on.

Denton’s knowledge of the game will be a huge asset to the college as the rising stars who look to develop their netball skills.

She is currently assisting with the knockout netball teams and will step into her new role as specialist coach in the new year.

Tenison Woods College HPSP head coach Ciaran Buckley said to have a sports person of Denton’s calibre was a huge asset to the college.

“We are very excited to have Donna Denton as a part of our hard-working High Performance Sports Program and school netball teams at Tenison Woods College,” he said.

“Her level of netball expertise and experience is second-to-none in our local community and she will be an integral team member with our exciting future programs being implemented in 2019/2020.

“Most importantly she will be an outstanding role model/mentor for our highly talented student athletes at Tension Woods College.”

Denton is enthusiastic about her impending role and is eager to work with students and bring out the best out in them.

She will teach the budding athletes the skills and game finesse they need to become highly competent netballers, both on and off the court.

“I am looking forward to taking some specialist coaching sessions and helping to develop the Netball skills of the students who are part of the High Performance Sports Program and College Netball Teams,” Denton said.
