JUST three minor rounds remain in the 2018 Western Border Football League season and again South Gambier faces a tough test.

The young Demons head to McDonald Park tomorrow to take on East Gambier for Round 14, in what will be a hard battle.

The Bulldogs come off a couple of wins on the trot, albeit last round by just one point over a determined West Gambier.

In contrast the Demons have not won since Round 9, which coincidentally was against the Bulldogs.

It was a comfortable victory too, with 43 points the difference at the final siren.

Brayden Kain kicked four goals for South, while youngster Henri Capewell contributed three on a wet day for football.

And it looks like the heavens could open up again tomorrow, with rain forecast.

The Demons would surely hope that scenario does unfold, which could provide their best opportunity for another victory this season.

In the coming rounds they face the top two sides in Casterton Sandford and Millicent, which will be an even bigger test.

However, with the news of a change of coaching staff for next season, the Demons camp would be looking ahead with a positive attitude.

Heath Mitchell was only ever set to coach for a couple of years and that time is up.

He will hand the reins back to Brett Exelby, who will return from a coaching stint in the junior ranks, where Mitchell will go to guide his own young family through the club.

However, that will have little effect on tomorrow’s contest, except for the fact the Demons would love a win to send Mitchell out on a high.

East will need to be focused on the job at hand for that simple reason, as will the Cats and the Saints in the coming weeks.

But with the Bulldogs eyeing a finals position off, they are sure to not let this one slip by, as they did back in Round 9.

Jayden Eldridge is in season-best form, as is Josh Ransom and a host of others.

Coach Matt Willson seems to be pulling the side together at the right time of the season and they will want to continue that winning momentum, which will unfortunately come at the expense of the young Demons.
