Doody on top in Blue Lake golf

BLUE Lake Golf Club competitors had to contend with strong winds and rain Saturday which made good scores hard to come by, but that did not stop Neal Doody from cementing his overall win with an impressive round of 82-13-69 nett.

Doody set up his win on the front nine as the rain fell and he would have been happy with his birdie on the par four, ninth hole as he went out in a solid 40 off the stick.

Once again Greg Cooper impressed, but after leading the field most of the day he had to be content with his win in A Grade.

He equalled the round of the day with 83-14-69 nett, with a stretch of four pars in a row from the fifth to the eighth holes helping him to defeat another in-form player Col Ferguson.

Ferguson was two shots back on 75-4-71 as he carded 11 pars for his round, including a birdie on the par five, 17th hole.

Rounding out the placings was three-time club champion Trevor Little with a round of 79-5-74 nett, which included nine pars and a birdie on the par four, ninth hole.

Avid Richmond supporter Alan Gale made it two wins in a row in B Grade with a solid round of 88-18-70 and no doubt his highlight was the birdie-three on the par four, 12th hole, together with splits of 43 and 45.

He comfortably accounted for Stephen Smith by four shots, with Smith carding a score of 91-17-74, one shot ahead of playing partner David Johnston.

Quadruple bogeys on the sixth and 12th holes proved costly for Johnston as he returned with a score of 96-21-75 nett.

In-form players dominated the Saturday competition and none better than Steve J. Dwyer as he once again claimed victory in C Grade.

But he found the wet conditions tough as he finished with a round of 100-27-73 nett to easily account for Terry Earl, who was five shots back on 104-26-78 nett.

Earl’s headed out in 59 on the front nine, but charged home in 45 to claim second spot from Michael Millhouse, who also improved dramatically on the back nine to card a nett 83.

Ball run down winners were Sam Letizia, Adam Jones, David Goldspring 75, Wayne Dunford, Joshua Gale, Bruce Morale 76, Marc Dalton 77, Roger Gale, Colin Stratford 78 and Matt Jennings 79 on a count-back.

Pro shot winners were David Goldspring on the par three, fifth hole and Roger Gale on the par three, 16th, as the pair both collected four balls each.

Nearest the pins went to A Grade’d Tim Bates and B Grade’s David Goldspring, while long drives went to A Grade’s Greg Cooper, B Grade’s Alan Gale and C Grade Wayne Dunford.

Due to the poor weather conditions there was no women’s competition.

The hole in one jackpot is $1000.

Tuesday competition

ANOTHER cold and wet day greeted the regular midweek players but that did not stop long-hitting Marc Dalton stamping his authority on the day with an solid round of 36 points to claim the honours.

After beginning with 16 points on the front side, Dalton recorded birdies on the par four, 11th and the par four, 15th holes.

But bogeys on the par four, 12th and par three, 16th were his only slip ups as he carded an even par 35 on the back nine for an impressive nine holes of 20 points.

In second place was Kym Vaughan two shots back on 34 and he could thank his two four pointers on the second and the 10th holes to help him return to some form.

The ever-consistent Ian Bown finished in third place with a round of 31 points, but after going out in 17, a wipe on the 11th hole proved very costly.

Ball run down winners were David Dowie 31, Stephen Von Duve 30, Tyson Ploenges, Jim Ferrazola 27 and David Lamont 26 c/b.

The pro shot on the par 3 fifth hole went to David Dowie as he collected four balls for his nearest the pin.

The hole in one voucher jackpot is $2000.
