TRAVELLING WINNERS: Travelling golfers Susie Alexander, Heather Teakle, Jan Baczynski and Heather Hadnum joined in the fun at the Attamurra golf course last week and claimed the Gentsomes foursomes competition.

LAST Wednesday’s Gentsomes competition at the Mount Gambier Golf Club proved to be an enjoyable day, with 40 women competing in teams of four in the second year of the event.

Heather Teakle, Susie Alexander, Helen Hadnum and Jan Baczynski, who joined in for a hit of golf while touring the Lower South East, took the honours on the day, to finish with 100 points after the top combined score using the best two stableford points was compiled.

The team played the course well, excelling on the difficult back nine.

Alexander took advantage of using the team’s best tee shot on each hole to score 51 points.

Close behind were runners-up Faye Mainwaring, Carol Davis, Di Norman and Maureen Sims, with a score of 99 points.

All players scores contributed well, while Sims’ consistent game with 34 points was the teams top scorer.

Only one point separated the three teams in the ball run down, with first place getters Helen Gregory, Kate McCormack, Camilla Knowles and Heather Chapman carding 97 points.

Jennette Braun, Lyn Hudson, Deb Paschke and Marilyn Spencer scored 96 points, while third place with 95 points were Julie Robinson, Julie Scott, Jane Lamont and Bev Pedlar.

No A Grade player landed on the 16th green.

Winning four balls for landing her drive closest to the pin on the eighth hole was Pedlar, who pared the hole scoring three team points.

Meanwhile a big week for sisters Mainwaring and Gregory, who travelled to Kingston to compete in the Foursomes Champion of Champions and District Foursomes Championships.

The pair returned home victorious, winning both Salvers.

It was a an amazing effort with a score of 88 gross, the same score they won with on their home course to qualify.

Nine clubs competed in the Foursomes Championships, with Naracoorte claiming runner-up honours with a score of 91.

The District Foursomes runner-up was Millicent with 90 points.

This is the first year Mainwaring and Gregory as a team have won these events.

Their playing styles are similar, complimenting each other’s game well, with both playing a confident short game.

The Foursomes Champion of Champions Salver was last won by Mount Gambier in 2013 and the District Foursomes 2015.

Today all Attamurra women play a stoke format contesting the July Monthly Medal, played in conjunction with the second round of the Winter Salver and the four of seven qualifying rounds of the Anne Schrapel Handicap Championships.

With a week of rain expected before next Wednesday’s Hudson Trophy in stableford format, the ground will be heavier than previous rounds.

Jan Shanahan is on top of the leaderboard with 39 points, followed by Scott and Robinson both on 36 with three more rounds to play.
