City teens chosen for state squads

TOP NETBALLER: Lucy Denton has been chosen in the Under 15 School Girls Team in the State Netball Carnival, which will take place in Melbourne from July 28 to August 3.

THREE Tenison Woods College students have recently been selected for the Under 15 Netball and Football state teams.

Lucy Denton has been chosen in the Under 15 School Girls Team in the State Netball Carnival.

Denton was one of 12 girls selected from both country and metropolitan areas of South Australia and gained her place after taking part in four trials.

She is excited about the opportunity to play in the South Australian team and to see how her skills match up with girls all over Australia.

“I hope to improve on my netball ability and win the carnival,” Denton said.

The 14-year-old is a midcourt player and goalies who prides herself on her speed and netball intelligence.

Meanwhile, Hannah and Paige Nitschke have also been selected, as two of five reserves for the side.

The State Netball Carnival will be held in Melbourne between from July 28 to August 3 this year.

Meanwhile, two students have also been selected to play in the Under 15 School Boys State Football team.

Harry McInnes and Harry Tunkin were picked in a final team of 25 out of 140 students from all over the state.

McInnes prides himself on his high marking.

His height allows him to dominate around the ground and separate himself from his opposition, while Tunkin is an in-and-under midfield player who uses his speed and strength to his advantage to win the ball.

Tunkin is excited about the opportunity to play on the state team.

“I look forward to competing against the best players in Australia and seeing where my skills rank against others my age,” he said.

Meanwhile, McInnes is eager to improve before the competition.

“I want to develop my skills leading up to the carnival, play a good tournament within my capabilities and ultimately improve on my game,” he said.

The state football carnival will be held in Adelaide from July 21-28.
