THE Limestone Coast will be well represented over the June long weekend with a Mount Gambier darts side heading to Whyalla for the annual Country Darts Championships.

It is the biggest tournament held each year in South Australia, with 12 teams competing from all corners of Country SA.

The Mount Gambier side was the last to enter the competition back in 2000 and has experienced mixed results along the way, finishing third on two occasions and will look to improve this time around.

The side has been bolstered by the return of Jason Fulham, who won the South East best and fairest for 2017 and has enjoyed good competition results this year.

James Brooks and Nathan Tana are also in good form, boasting 11 out of 12 singles wins for the Division 1 South East Darts Association season so far.

Danny Scally finished second in the overall averages last year and also claimed the State Country singles for 2017.

The team includes Geoff Kember, who finished ninth in overall averages in 2016, Mick Williams in his 19th consecutive year and former Australian junior singles winner John Simpson, who all bring much needed experience to the table, along with rookie member Karl Schaeffer who has been in good form in all competitions leading into this event.

Sides like Murray Bridge, Port Augusta, Port Pirie and the host side Whyalla will be extremely tough to beat, but the Mount Gambier side is quietly confident.

The team is in hot form in the current Western Border league – which includes sides from Warrnambool, Hamilton and Horsham – where they remain top of the table, undefeated after five rounds.
