College golf program hits the road

IMPRESSIVE RESULTS: St Martins students Mitchell Handford and Ben Thiel returned after a successful SSSSA/GolfSA Individual State Championship, finishing first and second respectively in the nett competition.

EIGHT St Martins Lutheran College Golf students recently travelled to Adelaide to compete in the SSSSA/GolfSA Individual State Championship tournament held on Grange Golf Club East Course, with some impressive results.

Year 9 student Mitchell Handford and Year 11 Ben Thiel competed in the 36-hole A Grade Boys division and played well to finish first and second respectively in the nett competition.

The boys competed against 30 other students from around the state in the talented 10 and under handicap division.

Playing off high single figure handicaps, Handford scored a nett 72 on his first 18 holes and a fine nett 68 the second time around, while Thiel scored a nett 75 and followed up with an impressive nett 67, which included a triple bogey on the last hole.

The boys also beat their own handicaps on the championship layout.

Meanwhile Year 11 student Jade Delaney, playing off an impressive 19 handicap, played well in the 36 hole A Grade Girls competition to finish third in the nett division with scores of 81 and 79.

Year 11 student Nicole Moran finished first in the 18 holes B Grade Girls division with a respectable 34 stableford points, while Year 12 Thomas Miles finished third in the 18-hole C Grade boys division with 33 stableford points.
