Barry claims Veterans Salver victory

TOP PERFORMANCES FOR SALVER: The Mount Gambier Golf Club held its Salver competitions last week, with Faye Mainwaring the gross Veteran winner, Maxine McGregor the Super Veteran winner, Heather Barry the Veteran winner and Bev Pedlar the Super Veterans gross winner.

HEATHER Barry claimed her first Mount Gambier Golf Club Veterans Salver recently, with a win in the stroke format at the Attamurra golf course.

Barry’s score of nett 72 was enough to claim the honours in a field of 31 women.

In her first eligible year in the division, Maxine McGregor claimed the Super Veterans honours after returning with a nett 75.

Faye Mainwaring claimed the Veterans gross award with 82 off the stick, while Bev Pedlar – who returned to golf after a nine-week break – won the Super Veterans gross award with a score of 97.

The Non-Veterans award was won by Kerry Pedlar with 92-16-76.

The shot-of-the-day went to Glenise Johnstone on the eighth hole, with her accurate drive off the elevated tee block hitting the flag pole to deflect a short distance from the hole, to win the nearest the pin award.

The hole-in-one jackpot is currently $450.

Pedlar, Veteran Lyn Hudson and Super Veteran and Linley Gray claimed the nearest the pin award for their second shots on the 16th hole.

Winners in the ball run down were Sue Downes nett 73, Bernie Jennings nett 76, Yvonne Shirley, Helen Gregory, Jane Lamont and Johnstone, all finishing with a nett 77.

Although Di ODonnell was unable to attend the day, her sponsorship was gratefully appreciated by all the members.

Special guests for the day were life members Isobel Phillips and Gloria Lennon.

Today will be a three-person aggregate stableford round, sponsored by Mainwaring and Gregory, the first year the two sisters have introduced this competition to the women’s calendar.

A fine day is expected next Wednesday for all women who will be competing in the Shylie Rymill Foursomes, a stroke event played in pairs.

The event is to honour the late Mrs H. L. Rymill, co-founder of Golf SA in 1925.
