Netball: Top teams look to continue form in Mid South East Round 4

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: Tantanoola’s Kate Varcoe and the remainder of the Tigers side will have a big challenge this weekend when they take on the undefeated Kalangadoo outfit in Round 4 of Mid South East netball.

Kalangadoo v Tantanoola

KALANGADOO is again the benchmark for the 2018 Mid South East Netball Association A Grade competition and Tantanoola will certainly have its work cut when facing the reigning premier on their home court.

Melissa Russell is in great form and the task of keeping her quiet will fall to the reliable Kate Bromley.

The Magpies’ depth is what makes it such a difficult side to come up against and Russell is not the only player at her best this season.

Jayde Peacock is one of the toughest mid court players in the league and Tantanoola will need to curb her influence on the contest.

Either Kate Varcoe or Victoria Lucas will take on this crucial role.

Olivia Fuller will also had a big task for the Tigers at goal keeper when she lines up on the always accurate Abbey Duncan.

Emma Gould and Jamie Walker have been in form in Tantanoola’s goal circle in recent weeks and it will take big efforts from Jasmine Croser and Chloe Pratt to cause turnovers.

While there will be some impressive match ups on court, it is hard to mount a case for the Tigers against Kalangadoo.

Nangwarry v Mount Burr

BOTH Nangwarry and Mount Burr are yet to win a game in the Mid South East Netball Association season and as a result this will be a tough game with neither side giving an inch.

If the Mozzies are to stay in tomorrow’s game it is crucial they shut down the Saints’ key goalie Malinda Markiewicz.

She drives hard into the circle and makes space, all while finishing off accurately.

However, Nangwarry’s list of impressive players does not stop there.

Cassie Dinnison was a stand out against Hatherleigh last round and her change from defence into goals had a big impact on the game.

However, it is more likely she will take the defensive role this weekend and hope to curb the influence of tall and accurate shooter Ebony Clark.

Laura Schultz appears to be carrying on her best and fairest form from 2017 and will be a tough opponent for youngster and former Mozzie Chloe Vanderhorst.

This game will come down to who can string four quarters together, which will most likely be Mount Burr.

Robe v Hatherleigh

IT is hard to mount a case for Robe when it hosts a full strength Hatherleigh outfit this weekend.

The Eagles will welcome Keston Green and Jess Bowman back into their side on Saturday and will look forward to having their starting seven on the court for the second time this season.

Hatherleigh’s Maddie Redman is in career best form and Halle Carter will need to be on her game to keep Robe in the match.

Kim Ross and Sarah Faulkner always have a solid tussle in centre for their respective sides and it is expected that trend will continue into this weekend.

Hannah Perkins will have the task of shutting down Maddie Pulmer who is beginning to find her feet in the A Grade competition.

If Robe brings its “A game” it could contest for the win, but the points are likely to fall into the Eagles’ nest.

Glencoe v Kongorong

AFTER a closer than expected victory over Tantanoola, Glencoe will look to put its game against Kongorong away early.

However, it will not be that easy.

The Hawks will have fresh legs – coming off the bye – and will be aiming on returning to their preseason cup form where they defeated Kalangadoo.

The match-up between Roxy Gibson and Ebony McDiarmid will be intriguing as both will fight hard to win their position.

Ashleigh Sturges’ height in centre could cause headaches for the Murphies, but both Jesse Gosden and Alyce Finnis are hard workers and will do their best to counteract the advantage.

Sarah Edwards and Caitlinn Leibich are turning into one of the best defensive units in the competition and will make Kaylah Earl and Brittany McEvoy’s task difficult in goals.

Kongorong will give its all, but Glencoe will refuse to let the game slip.
