NORTH Gambier will start as favourites in the today’s Western Border Netball Association Anzac Day clash with South Gambier at Blue Lake Sports Park.

Both clubs are honoured to be a part of the special day, which is now a tradition in the Western Border competition.

While the day is about paying respect, it will be business as usual when the two sides hit the court.

After a disappointing loss to Millicent, the Tigers bounced back in style with a dominating first half against the Cats to set up their Round 3 victory.

Led by the defensive prowess of Ash Kalantarian, the hard running and strong delivery of Amanda O’Shaughnessy and the strength on the hold and accuracy of Caroline Davey, the Tigers looked strong.

Kaitlin Egan even had to vacate her wing attack role and take over the goal defence bib.

However, she looked right at home and slotted back into her defensive circle seamlessly, which means today’s clash will be a tough outing for the Demons.

South had patches of good play on Friday night but could not produce that effort consistently enough to genuinely trouble the Tigers but if Georgia Hood brings the same performance and Imogen Walker earns more scoring opportunities, the Demons will be competitive.

The interesting aspect of the contest will be Jordyn Adams first outing as Tiger and just where she will line up against her former team mates.

The Demons will need to be aware of the hands pressure and play reading ability of Kalantarian, who broke up many of the Cats forays forward before they even reached the shooting circle.

Tori McIntyre and Lauren Duncan will need to be patient and also work hard to find the circle’s edge, while Alyssa Boylan looms large in terms of earning turnover ball for South so they can stay in the hunt.

North still looks the better side on paper but will need to bring its “A game” as the Demons appear to be improving every week.
