Baseball: City hosts Masters tournament

THE Mount Gambier Legends Baseball Club will host the 12th annual Mount Gambier Baseball Masters tournament this weekend at Blue Lake Sports Park.

A total of 11 teams will participate in the event held from today to Sunday, with five Adelaide teams joining two Victorian sides and four Mount Gambier clubs in the event.

From Adelaide, the Northern Aces have submitted two teams, along with the Adelaide Aces, Playford City Pirates and Tigers 6’s have accepted the invitation and will compete in the tournament.

Victoria’s Williamstown Rangers, which is a combination of players from Williamstown and Naracoorte and the Diamond Dogs will also test the metal of the local teams.

Central, Mount Gambier Tigers, Mount Gambier Misfits and the Mount Gambier Legends will each represent the region in this annual event.

With the competition split into two pools, Pool A will play four games each, while Pool B will play five, with two diamonds used constantly throughout the weekend and all games of a 90-minute duration.

Tomorrow will see four games played, with the first on Diamond 1 starting at 3.30pm between Playford City Pirates and Diamond Dogs.

The final game for the day will see the Williamstown Rangers and Adelaide Aces face off at 8.45pm under lights.

On Saturday, 13 games will be played, with the first at 8am and the last starting at 8.30pm between Adelaide Aces and Playford City Pirates.

A round of eight games will complete the tournament on Sunday, with the first at 8am.

The winning team in each pool will have its name engraved on the perpetual trophy and medallions will be presented to the players in the first, second and third-ranked teams.

Full catering facilities are available at the baseball clubrooms all weekend.
