Shooting: Rhook performs at Burrungle Park

BEST ON THE DAY: Ron Rhook claimed the high gun honours in the recent South East Field and Game competition.

SOUTH East Field and Game hosted 62 clay shooters at Burrungule Park for its 60-target English Sporting event recently.

This rare discipline sees all targets presented as pairs, testing the shooters’ skills, while high winds also added to the difficulty.

On the day Ron Rhook used all his experience to shoot a solid 53/60 and take out the high gun award on a count-back from Jeremy Kent.

Kent was forced to settle for the AA Grade win, followed by Tim Widdison with 52/60, who also survived a count-back to push Chris Wright back into third place.

A Grade was dominated by visiting shooters, as Mick Banning shot 49/60 to come out on top of Andrew Green and Tony Sellars.

In the B Grade competition, Gary Banning was lucky, defeating Charles Wallis on count-back after they both tied on 38/60, while Mick Edwards rounded out the podium.

Doug Rohde made a welcome return to the club after a long holiday and won C Grade from Allan Spokes, with Rob Marcato delighted to make the podium for the first time, after finishing third.

The high-scoring Veterans coped well with the winds, with Neville Kent scoring an impressive 50/60 to win from Wayne Evans on a count-back.

Wayne Gurney finished in third place with 49/60.

The Super Veterans class also required a count-back to determine the end result, with Bob Jones getting the jump on Ernie Allen, both with scores of 45/60, while third place went to Barry Hill.

Charlotte Devaud was pleased to win the women’s class from Liz Rymill, with Emma Lawford finishing third.

In the juniors, Adam Kuhl claimed the honours, while Shakielle VonStanke won the competitive Sub Juniors class by one target from Declan Wright and Brodie Von Stanke-Dowie.
