A STABLEFORD round was on the cards for the Mount Gambier Golf Club on Saturday.

The event required a big score to take home the win, while second place was determined by a four-way countback.

Jayden Ballintyne had the round of the day at the Attamurra golf course, finishing with a stunning 47 stableford points.

A well compiled 20 points on the front nine, before a square with the card, 36 off-the-stick and 27 points on the back nine, saw the 18 marker seven points clear of the field.

Mount Barker/Hahndorf visitor Craig Eichler was one of four players on 40 points including, Peter Fox, Paul Kenny and Jim Douglas.

Ballintyne took C Grade from Bob McLellan on 38 points.

Eichler won B Grade by count-back from Fox, while Douglas claimed D Grade from Burt Van Nispen on 37 points.

In A Grade Klinton Malin was on the right side of the count-back after he and Setio Shanahan finished tied on 39 points.

Players required 36 points and a good back nine to claim a ball with winners included Rob McIntyre, Trent Eitzen, Jayden Eldridge, Matt Bryant, Kevin Cook, Max Tollner, Haydn Dow, Charlie

Finch, Lyndsay Copeman, Tony Revill, Ian Ewart, Stacey Fiegert, Duncan Savage, Russell Lewis, Graham Thomas, Don Ruggiero, Gary McCormack and Brian Shanahan.

The pro-shot on the 16th hole belonged to Andrew Stark, while shot-of-the-day on the eighth went to Nick Black.

Women’s Stableford

IT was a smaller than usual field for the women on Saturday, with a few regular players away for the weekend.

The 15 who did enjoy the course took the total field for the day over the 120 mark.

Julie Scott was best with 34 points, with Heather Chapman and Carol Davis finishing second and third respectively on count-back after both posted 32 points.

Jan Shanahan was best of the 31 pointers and claimed a ball on run down, while also grabbing the pro-shot on the 16th hole.

Thursday Stableford

THURSDAY produced a perfect day for golf and with the course in immaculate condition, a field of 100 players participated.

With pins in club championship positions and such a large field, it was going to take something special to win.

As usual in great sporting contests the cream tends to rise to the top and so it was on Thursday when life member and club legend Neil Richardson used all of his local knowledge to post a score 99 other players could not beat.

A member for over 60 years and a guiding hand to generations of Mount Gambier juniors, Richardson to this day donates his time and energies to the club.

His 41 points was good enough to win by count-back from Peter Collie.

Rob McIntyre, Brendon Curley, Tony McGregor, Nic Clayton and Paul Griffiths were tied on 39 points.

Players needed 37 points to claim a ball, except for the lucky Stephen Herbert and John Sandery who survived as the best of the 36’s.

Other winners included Bill Degaris, Bob Johnson, Craig Foster, Doug Mullen, Paul Kenny Garry McCormack, Adrian Ballintyne, Greg Smyth, Leigh McCracken Jim Leane, Peter Buckingham,

Graham Paterson, Stephen Rickard, John Sandery and Stephen Herbert.

Smyth also claimed the pro-shot on the 16th hole, while Boyce claimed another shot-of-the-day on the eighth.
