Baseball: Central shows dominance across the board

Division 2

MILLICENT recorded a strong win in the Mount Gambier baseball Division 2 grand final on the weekend, accounting for Central 9-1.

Millicent scored one run in the first innings, two in the second, two in the third and four in the sixth, while Central only managed a single run in the second innings.

Millicent pitcher Darcy Pink held the Magpie batters to just three safe hits, while the Bandits collected nine of their own.

Central made eight errors to Millicent’s four.

Division 3

CENTRAL took charge of the Division 3 grand final early in the first innings, with three runs to apply pressure to South Indians and run out convincing winners.

One more was added in the third, but Central blew the game apart in the fourth, with six runs to stake a claim on the season honours.

South scored its only run in the top of the fourth and the mercy rule was applied in the bottom of the fifth when Central added a single run to claim the honbours 11-1.

Central out hit South eight hits to two and made three errors to four.

Central’s Shane Frankenburg pitched pitched an almost faultless game, only giving up two hits and no walks.

Under 15

CENTRAL set up its dominant win over Tigers/South in Under 15 baseball grand final in the bottom of the second innings, scoring the innings limit of seven runs.

They added two more in the third and a further four in the fourth.

Tigers/South’s solitary run came in the top of the fourth.

Central managed 12 safe hits to one and made no errors to six.

Under 13 Gold

THE Under 13 Gold division saw a reverse of the qualifying final when Central out-hit Millicent seven to three to defeat the Bandits 9-3.

The highlight was a home run from Millicent’s Ellis Cushion.

Central starter Jed Sims, along with a tight field, contained the free swinging Millicent batters.

Under 13 Blue

THE Under 13 Blue grand final saw the two Central teams face off.

The second-placed Magpies were victorious over their sister team in an entertaining 9-7 victory.

The win gave Central four premierships out of five for the weekend

The consolation final between sister teams from the Tigers Club saw a 7-5 run win to Tigers Black.
