Shooting: Kessegian fired up

AIMING FOR THE TOP: Mount Gambier Gun Club’s Greg Kessegian was presented with the high gun award at the club’s meeting on Saturday, with president Andrew Hoare congratulating him on his efforts.

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its monthly competition in fine conditions on Saturday, with the day consisting of three events and a high gun award.

Greg Kessegian was consistent over each of the disciplines and after a shoot-off with Ken Atkin, he claimed the high gun honours for the day with a solid 139/155.

A 50-Target Skeet Doubles was the first event on the roster, which saw shooters using their fine marksmanship skills to shoot some good scores.

With the event a taster for the State Skeet Nationals being held in Adelaide over the next long weekend, it was Atkin who won the AA Grade division with 46/50.

Kessegian won the A Grade event with 43/50 from Brian Spring on 41, while B Grade was taken out by Darren Beyer, who shot 40/50 to defeat runner-up Gavin Height with 34/50.

In C Grade Andrew Hoare scored 38/50 to secure the win over Chelsea McKinnon with 36/50.

The second event for the day, a 25-Target Club Double Rise Championship, was contested eagerly with Steve Zadow shooting 35/40 to win AA Grade from Kessegian with 34/40.

Spring found form in A Grade to secure the victory with 31/40, while Rayce Burgess finished in second with 28/40.

Rounding out the winners for the event were Scott Davis (33/50), who won B Grade from Peter Klieve (31/50) and Allan Humphries (29/40), who took out C Grade ahead of Ian Hill (27/40).

The final competition on Saturday was a 25-Target Double Barrel Championship.

With competitors in fine form, shoot-offs were required to determine the winners in all grades.

AA Grade saw Zadow once again at the front of the pack, as he shot a perfect 37/37 to come out on top of John Hawker with 36/37.

It was a similar story in A Grade, with Spring maintaining his consistent performance to score 28/29 to defeat Burgess on 27/29.

Sue Crane needed a perfect score of 31/31 to edge out Kane Hawker in B Grade, with the latter finishing with 30/31.

The final division saw Humphries with 25/25 to easily win C Grade from Mick Rudd, who scored 23/28.

The next event for the Mount Gambier Gun Club will be the sporting clays competition which will be held on March 31.
