Motorsport: Beare roars into action as #1

ACTION RETURNS: The Borderline Speedway will again roar into action tomorrow night for the wingless sprints and street stocks.

THE Borderline Speedway will erupt tomorrow night with the wingless sprints and MJS street stock series sharing the bill.

For the wingless sprints it will be Round 6 of their Sprint Super Series, with recent meetings called off due to the weather.

A big field of 51 cars have nominated, making this one of the biggest series on a domestic level.

Victoria dominates the entry list with young guns Daniel Storer, Todd Hobson, Ben Doukas, Luke Storer, Matthew Symons and Carly Walsh, joined by Peter Logue, David Cook, Glen Watts, Andy Hibbert, Shaun Lyness, Geoff Cook and Michael Parry.

The local SA contingent will be represented by Mitchell Broome and Trent Gravestock, while Jake Ashworth and Michael Spoljaric will make the journey down from Adelaide to compete.

Storer is the points leader in the series at the moment, while Dayn Bentvelzen won the summer slam series round here in Mount Gambier.

Last year’s series winner Luke Weel will also be one to watch, along with Victorian title holder Travis Miller, who won that title a few weeks ago.

Rookie Alex Ross is another to watch, after running second in the Victorian title in his first year.

Meanwhile the MJS Street Stock Series will see reigning Australian champion Anthony Beare have his first home run since winning the crown a few weeks back in Adelaide.

Beare will be a local favourite, with his recent racing endeavours producing the Australian title, the SA state title and just last weekend his second successive King of the Mount at Ballarat, where fellow Mount Gambier driver Mark Jennings ran second.

On the night the two dominated the feature race, with Beare’s new car now working a treat, after some early-season issues.

Beare said when his car runs well it is on the pace and spectators Saturday night will surely hope that pace continues.

Unfortunately Jennings will not be in attendance tomorrow night, with other personal commitments.

But Beare will not have it all his own way, with former national champion Rhys Heinrich also in the mix, along with the Buchanan boys – Moss, Anthony and Craig – from Murray Bridge, Andy Maxwell Jnr – who ran fourth in the Australian title – Bailey Heinrich, Brooke Ferguson, Darren Flatman and Tony Prideaux, among others.

Apart from Beare, other Limestone Coast drivers include Mark Gartner, Jayden Edwards and Scott Merrett, with the possibility of a late entry from Jason Duell.

Edwards is a third generation racer, with his father Barry a former Australian and state champion, while grandfather Ron was known as a competitive racer back in the late 1960s and 70s.

His performance this season has been impressive, qualifying in the top six in the Australian title.

If Duell does line up it will add even more interest for Limestone Coast fans.

All in all it is shaping up to be a big night of racing.

Racing is set to kick off at 6pm.
