THE penultimate round of the Mount Gambier and District Baseball League 2017-18 season will be held tomorrow with the preliminary finals played for all grades except for Under 13 Blue.

The Division 1 clash will see South Indians face off against Federal Demons for the right to play Tigers in the best-of-three game grand final the following week.

South and Federal played each other last week and it was the Indians who were victorious, eight runs to five.

However, the finals are a different ball game and although South hold sway over Federal, winning six of their seven meetings, the Demons will not hold back in this last shot at premiership glory.

Federal is the reigning premier and it will be determined to back up its 2017 performance with another grand final appearance.

For South, a premiership has been allusive for some time and it will be just as determined to secure the place in the big game.

Alex Reppin will be sure to lead the pitching for the Demons, while the Indians will likely turn to Dean Hamilton or Bruce Morale.

The pitching depth in both teams is similar and there will be no shortage of capable players to step up to the mound.

In the batting department, South’s Bruce Morale leads the way, closely followed by Dean Hamilton.

They bat down the order with players such as Ben Morale, Damien O’Dine, Steve Issacson, Alex Lewis and Travis Lockwood.

For Federal, Nathan Taylor is among the team’s best and he will be joined by the likes of Reppin, Wade Chant, Clay Carpenter and Shane Howard.

With the match scheduled for a 7pm start, full catering, bar facilities and good spectator viewing is available at Blue Lake Sports Park’s facility and all are encouraged to come along.
