Golf: Club captain earns medal

ON TARGET: Brendan Curley showed some deft touch to post a nett 66 and claim the monthly medal at the Attamurra Golf Course on Saturday.

A FIELD of 97 players enjoyed fine conditions for the March monthly medal at the Attamurra Golf Course on Saturday, with some excellent scores posted.

Peter Jones had the round-of-the-day with a nett 62 to easily win the C Grade medal, with Ian Ritter second on nett 70.

In B Grade Brendan Curley found some form and posted nett 66 to take the medal, with Stephen Gray second with nett 70.

Jim Douglas took the D Grade honours with a nett 67, just in front of Ron Walker on nett 68.

In A Grade it was club captain Adrian Ballintyne taking the medal with a fine nett 68 to finish two strokes clear of Nick Black on nett 70.

Players required nett 72 or better to win a ball, except for Barry Kuhl and Mitchell Handford who scraped through as the best of the 73’s.

Other winners included Chris Gabriel, Tom Madigan, Michael Cutting, Russell Lewis, Richard Gosling, John Miles, Paul Reade, Jeff Hodge, John Gosling, Ross Bond, Jack Peacock, Kim Sykes, Tod Lillicrap, Craig Foster and Kent Comely.

Only six players managed a birdie-two, with winners including Bob Dalgarno, Bond, Gosling, Gray, Hodge and Kuhl.

Duncan Savage took the pro-shot on 16, while shot-of-the-day belonged to Gosling on the eighth.

Jennings too strongĀ 

DONNA Jennings continued her run of good form to take out the women’s event with a nett 72.

This saw her five strokes clear of Julie Robinson, with Bernie Jennings third on nett 80.

Sharran Waters took the nearest the pin on the 16th hole, while shot-of-the-day belonged to Maxine McGregor on the eighth.

Tight Thursday result

FOUR players shared the round-of-the-day honours on Thursday, all posting 40 points.

Brian Norman, Ian Ritter, Tod Lillicrap and Ian Ewart could only be separated by count-back, with Norman taking the winner’s cheque and the others finishing respectively.

Immediately behind was another quartet of Nick Black, Ricky Walker, Peter Buckingham and Andrew Noble, all posting 39 points.

Players required 37 points or better to win a ball, including Neil Richardson, Garry McCormack, David McPherson, Graham Paterson, Malcolm Treloar, Des Guerin, Sam Mainwaring, Peter Dempsey, Allan Gray, Jeff Hodge and Burt Van Nispen.

Eight players made a birdie-two, including Ron Walker, David Anderson, John Osman, Allan Chalk, Kevin Cook, Michael Foran, Noble and Dempsey.

Anderson claimed both the pro-shot on the 16th hole and shot-of-the-day on the eighth.
