Shooting: Shooters back firing after cancellation

HIGH HONOURS: Jeremy Kent was the man to beat in the South East Field and Game February shoot event, winning the high gun award with a perfect score of 50/50 for the day.

AFTER the cancellation of the January shoot due to fire ban conditions, the 55 South East Field and Game competitors who nominated for the first event of the season were greeted with near perfect weather conditions for February’s 50 target Compak event.

Ken Atkin and his course setting crew set two grounds in the five-stand sporting clays compak format to test shooters’ skills, but this did not deter Jeremy Kent who shot two perfect rounds to total 50/50 and take out the high gun honours.

He was closely followed by Jamie Dunn with 49/50, which saw him to settle for the AA Grade win, while fellow Victorian Chris Brown secured second with 48/50.

Atkin rounded out the podium with 47/50.

Kingston’s Andrew Green was in red hot form to win the A Grade event with 48/50 from Tony Sellars and Casterton’s Bruce Oakley, who scored 46 and 43 respectively.

In B Grade, Cameron Scheidl was the man to beat with 34/50, out-shooting Romain Devaud (32/50) and Garry Allison (27/50).

Lake Bonney’s Ian Lister was in fine form to win C Grade, with his score of 34/50 enough to account for Darren Beyer on a countback, while Matt Crook settled for third with 33/50.

Neville Kent won the Veterans with 45/50 from Chris VonStanke Senior on 43 and Wayne Gurney with 40, while in the Super Veterans Peter Klieve overcame a deficit to his old sparring partner Peter Caskey to win the division with 41/50 from Frank Kentish (38/50) and Ernie Allen (36/50).

Tasha Bellinger dominated the women’s event to score 44/50 and take the win, while the improving Bec Kober and Emma Lawford rounded out the podium with 23 and 20 respectively.

Fresh from beating his father Chris at Lake Bonney recently, Declan Wright put in another strong performance to win the Sub Juniors with an impressive 42/50.

He was followed by the talented Rossouw brothers Fletcher and Carter, who shot 29 and 27 respectively..
