Softball: Warriors too strong

WARRIORS proved far too strong for Concordes White in the recent round of Mount Gambier softball.

Young guns Emmerson Hann, Kate Telford and Imogen Walker led from the front totalling six hits between them.

Hann was flawless in the field making four great plays.

Concordes’ Jo Hopgood, Sam Brown and Chelsea Fowler secured their team safe hits.

However, it was not enough to get a score on the board.

Courtney Hansen managed three safe hits, as did Telford and Walker, while Nic Vause contributed with a triple and a double.

Zoe Crouch had two well placed hits and Felicity Walker kept the left side of the field jumping to hand Warriors a convincing victory.

Wanderers 7 d Warriors 6

JUST one run separated Wanderers and Warriors at the final whistle.

It was a tight game as both teams scored two runs in the first innings.

Wanderers’ Fiona Finch managed a hit to left field, which put herself into a scoring position.

Em Hart followed and contributed with a home run to give their side two runs in the second innings.

Warriors then took to the bat, but were held scoreless due to some impressive fielding by Wanderers.

The score remained 2-4 until the fourth innings, with both teams scoring one run each.

Wanderers came up for their last bat and with some nicely placed hits from Fiona Finch and Jo Hart brought Wanderers to a total of seven runs.

Warriors stepped up to bat, but Wanderers were on their toes and quickly had the first two batters out.

Then with a nicely placed hit by Vause and some well picked walks Warriors found themselves with loaded bases.

Maddie Hann came up to bat hitting to the outfield bringing the score to 6-7.

With two outs and loaded bases, Hanson smashed the ball to short stop, but Cathy Whiting scooped it up and ditched it to third base to get the final out.

Wanderers won 7-6.

Concordes White 14 d Concordes United 7

CONCORDES White came out firing against Concordes United, scoring seven runs in the first two innings due to impressive safe hitting back to back by the entire line-up.

Sam Brown controlled United in the first two innings.

Concordes White controlled the game from start to finish recording runs in every innings.

Stand outs were Hannah Taylor with two safehits and impressive efforts in the field.

Melissa Brodie recorded her best game of the season with two safehits, while Jo Hopgood had three safehits for the victors.

For United Linda Dodds has two safehits as did Dana Jones, who also caught well throughout.
