Golf: Trio shares victory

ON TARGET: Barry Brook shared the round-of-the-day honours at the Attamurra Golf Course on Saturday.

THE afternoon golfers at the Attamurra Golf Course experienced the better of the conditions on Saturday for a stableford event, with the morning players having to endure a slightly damp beginning to the day.

Stephen Gray, Barry Brook and Bryan Hunt shared round-of-the-day honours, with the trio posting 40 points apiece.

Peter Gardner was alone on 38 with Robert Smith, Mathew Dixon, Russell Oehms, Shane Brook and Michael Foran all posting 37 points.

Gray took the B Grade winners voucher in front of Barry Brook on count-back, while Hunt claimed C Grade in front of Smith.

Gardner was the D Grade winner with Haydn Dow second on 35 points and in the A Grade Shane Brook took first place in front of Jason Shanks on 36 points.

Scoring was tough for the 102-strong field, with players only requiring 33 points and a good back nine to claim a ball.

Winners included Digger Richardson, Andrew Stark, Richard Gosling, Ross Bond, Winston Prowse, Max Tollner, Russell Lewis, Paul Reade, Garry McCormack, Peter Dempsey, Tim Kenny, Bob McLellan, Phil Bliss, Brian Simmonds and Robert Bond.

Duncan Savage holed out with a wedge on the fifth to record an eagle-two.

Eight players managed a birdie-two on one of the par 3’s, with those not already mentioned including, Brian Pink, Kent Comely, Grant Lean, Chris Ryan and Leigh McManus.

David Turnbull claimed the pro-shot on the 16th hole, while shot-of-the-day went to Pink on the eighth.

Tough day for women

THE women were off in the morning and had the worst of the conditions, with many trying to hone their skills in preparation for the Southern Ports tournaments this week.

Kerry Pedlar battled best in the difficult weather, posting 32 points, which was enough to secure a three-point victory over Maxine McGregor on 29.

Marie Douglas was third on 28, with Yvonne Shirley and Penne Saffin rounding out the top five on 27 points each.

Karen Forster claimed the pro-shot on 16, while Heather Chapman took the shot-of-the-day honours on the eighth.

Top score for Foran

MICHAEL Foran had the round of the day, posting an excellent 45 points in Thursday’s stableford competition.

His score equates to a 77 off-the-stick for the 14 marker and saw him three points clear of Mathew Dixon and Patrick Dempsey on 42 points, with Dixon taking second on count back.

David Turnbull, Ian Ewart, Doug Mullen and Ian Ritter all carded 41 points, with Winston Prowse and Graham Robinson also making the 40’s.

Players required 38 points and a good back nine to win a ball, with Paul Kenny, Brian Norman, Ken Whitehead and Michael Rees all missing out on count-back.

Winners included Barry Page, Brian Simmonds, Henry Forbes, Andrew Leigh, Craig Foster, Nick Black, Ross Bond, Ryan Meakin, Dave Boyce and Sam Ferguson.

Eight players managed a birdie-two on one of the par three’s, with Nick Black having his eye in and grabbing a couple.

Payers settling for one included Des Guerin, Brendon Curley, Digger Richardson, Des Taylor, Terry Janeway, Tony McGregor and Mark Forster.

Black claimed the pro-shot on 16, where he grabbed one of his twos, while shot-of-the-day went to McGregor on the eighth.
