Golf: Knowles given nod in three-way draw

CLOSE FINISH FOR OUTRIGHT HONOURS: Runner-up Libby Furner, winner Camilla Knowles and third placed Lorraine Bruhn rounded out the Summer Salver series at the Attamurra Golf Course last week.

CAMILLA Knowles had to survive a three-way tie to claim the Summer Salver at the Attamurra Golf Course last week.

Calm but drizzly conditions greeted the 36 competitors in the final round of play, with good scores the order of the day, which saw 10 players on square or better.

Knowles came out on top with a great score of two-up, followed closely by Libby Furner and Lorraine Bruhn.

Lyn Hudson, also with two-up, was the unfortunate player to miss out on a count-back.

The Salver will be presented by life member Isobel Phillips, on the opening day on March 7.

There were five balls given out in the ball run-down, including Lyn Hudson, Maxine McGregor, Bev Pedlar, Faye Mainwaring and Carol Davis.

The third shot into the green on the 14th went to A Grade’s Heather Barry, B Grade’s Kate McCormick and C Grade’s Mary Kentish.

Heather Chapman converted her shot onto the eight green into a birdie and won three balls for nearest the pin.

Southern Ports Golf Week is being held in the district this week and a number of women are participating in the tournament, reducing the number playing a stableford round at Attamurra today.

The women’s Club Championships will be held in March this year and the first qualifying round of the championships start on Wednesday March 21, with the second round played on March 28.

Next week will be the women’s Opening Day with a four-person ambrose scheduled.

Players are asked to be at the club at 9am for a shotgun start at 9.30.

A draw will indicate tee off holes and playing members and visitors will have lunch and trophy presentation to complete the day.
