BAYSIDE VICTORS: Port MacDonnell’s Lyn Vanderley, Lorraine Mackereth, Marilyn Sutton and skipper Roma Henderson took out the overall win at the 2018 women’s invitational fours medley played last Tuesday.

PORT MacDonnell hosted the women’s Invitation Fours Medley last Tuesday, with the theme of “a day at the beach”.

With players putting effort into their attire, it was the Port MacDonnell team of Lyn Vanderlay, Marilyn Sutton, Lorraine Mackereth and skipper Roma Henderson were the overall winners, scoring 136 points in the event.

Each of the four games on the day were played differently, with the first event a long and short game played with a fixed jack placed on a washer by the skipper.

Away from the clubhouse was the short end, while going towards the club the kitty was positioned at the two-metre mark – the long end.

The winners of this game was Veronica Opie’s team from the Mount Gambier RSL.

Double points were scored for the second game and Millicent’s Sarah Ross and her team were victorious in this event.

The next format, the 10 up, saw the thirds take out the closest four bowls and score them down from four to one, indicating the scores for each team, with totals for both teams always equal to 10.

Mount Gambier RSL’s Val Anderson and her rink took out the honours in this match.

The final game was a power play, which allowed skippers to call “power play” on an end and if they won it, their team’s score was doubled.

Winning this game was Portland’s Jenny Garner and her team.
