Harness racing: Gold and glory await trotters

BIG NIGHT: Action will return to the Greenwald Paceway Saturday night for the running of the $12,000 Mount Gambier Gold Cup.

TWELVE pacers will face the starter in next Saturday night’s $12,000 Mount Gambier Gold Cup final at the Greenwald Paceway after the heats were run last Friday evening.

The barrier draw will be decided later this afternoon and the finalists are Adams Express, Bee Gee’s Bandit, Hot Breakfast, So Bobs Your Uncle (front), Corporal Bill, Diamond Jasper, Emain Macha, Kimani, Mighty Regal (10 metres), Jumping Jolt, Okelerho Lad, Witzend (20 metres).

Also part of a big night’s harness racing on track will be the $10,000 Ubet Pacing Cup, the $7000 Mount Gambier Derby (for three year olds), the $8000 Mount Gambier Trotters Cup and the ever popular Pony Trots Cup.

Final fields for the meeting will be released later today.

There is something for the whole family to enjoy with a free jumping castle for the younger ones, plus a punter’s club, public bar, totalisator and bookmaker, food outlets and the Pick 6 competition for the adults.

On Friday night, the annual Gold Cup calcutta and three course dinner ($45 per head) will be held (everyone is welcome to attend) out at the Linksview Bar and Bistro from 6.30pm with Gary Crocker, Harness Racing SA interim general manager as guest speaker.
