TRISTAN McCaul walked away from the Penola and District Community Rodeo $3770 richer after claiming the Open Bull Ride with an impressive eight-second display on Saturday night.

McCaul – who resides in Toowoomba, Queensland – was awarded a score of 75 for his solid ride in the arena on Saturday night.

He was the only contestant – from the 11 who entered – to stay in the saddle for the eight-seconds when battling with the top-of-the-line Woodall Rodeo Promotions bulls.

Records were set all round on Saturday night, but rodeo promotions officer Gordon Childs was most impressed with the ground-breaking number of competitors.

A total of 15 riders battled for top honours in the Second Division Bull Ride.

Cody Gibbons was a step above, edging out Wyatt Fraser with a 66-point ride.

Little separated first and second in the Open Bare Back event.

Paddy Webster’s ride earned 72-points to win the $1210, while Tom Willoughby was just behind on 71.

Garrett Lynch also rode out the full eight seconds to earn 66 points and third place.

The Open Saddle Bronc was well contested, with four of the nine riders reaching time.

Tanna Ireland was four points clear in first to take home the top honours with 68.

However, Michael Keough, James Sclanders and Beau Kerr were right behind.

Keough went on to claim the Second Division Saddle Bronc with 67 points.

Cody Ireland rode well to earn runner-up, while Jack Duffield took home third.

An impressive ride from youngster Joe Downs saw him win the Junior Bull Ride.

Fraser also rode out the full time and was awarded second place.

An impressive field of 42 riders entered the Ladies Barrel Race, which was well contested.

Less than one second separated the top four contestants.

However, it was Hayley Rogers who edged out Tammy Woodall, Marron Thompson and Rebecca Heggarton with a time of 14.122 to take away the top prize.

The Junior Barrel Race was also well supported, with all 23 contestants showing good pace in the arena.

Thompson was too strong for the remainder of the youngsters, with an impressive time of 14.59 to take home the win.

Will Thompson was next best, followed by Shayleigh Ingelse and Toni-Jean Woodall.

An entertaining twist saw South East residents test their luck against the clock in the Local Barrel Race.

Mackenzie Richards took home first prize with a time of 17.99, almost two seconds clear of runner-up Annabelle Hetherington.

Finlay Hobbs earned third place, while Sam Hentschke came home with fourth.

It was another solid show for Woodall Rodeo Promotions with Von Zipper named best bucking horse and Hitman best bucking bull.
