Sailing: Southend hosts high level event

ACTION APLENTY: All the action of Taipan racing will be on display at Rivoli Bay this weekend with the States Title taking to the water.

SOUTHEND will be awash with catamaran sailing boats this weekend as Rivoli Bay Sailing Club hosts the Taipan States Title.

The two-day regatta will attract sailing enthusiasts from across South Australia and Victoria, including experienced state and national sailors, while Rivoli Bay club members Evan Steele with

Caitlin McMahon and Brad Mann with Joseph McMahon will look to claim the honours for the South East.

The state titles will consist of seven races, which will provide some spectacular sailing.

The 4.9 and 5.7 Taipans’ are modern, high-performance sailing catamarans and are built professionally by Australian High Performance Catamarans (AHPC) or home built.

Due to the strong design these boats remain competitive despite being close to 25 years old, with many ageing boats still achieving top positions at titles.

If weather forecasts for the weekend can be believed, sailors and their crew should be in for the usual summer south-easterly weather, which will be ideal for the event.
