Shooting: Tiebreakers required across all events

STATE TEAM SELECTION: The 50-target Skeet Zone Selection saw A Grade’s Steve Chambers, C Grade’s Tom Jenkins and AA Grade’s Ken Atkin selected for the South Australian state team.

HOT and windy conditions greeted the Mount Gambier Gun Club as it held its February competition on Saturday.

Close results throughout the entire day saw all four events, as well as the high gun, require shootoffs to determine the winners.

The high gun award went to Ken Atkin over the day’s events, with his impressive total of 170/182 enough for the win after a shootoff with Greg Kessegian.

50-Target Skeet Zone Selection

THE first event of the day saw the 50-Target Skeet Zone Selection contested, with shooters trying their skills to be chosen for the South Australian state team, which will compete at the Skeet National Championships later in the year.

Atkin took out the AA Grade event with 46/50 from Michael Raper, who scored 45/50, while in A Grade it was Deborah McPherson who claimed the honours also with 46/50 from Anthony Lock on 44/50.

In the B Grade category, Steve Chambers was the man to beat as he shot an impressive 48/50 to secure the win over Kessegian with 47/50.

The final winner for the opening event was Tom Jenkins, who scored 45/50 to win C Grade from Will Vickery with 43/50.

25-Target Pointscore Championship

EVENT two for Saturday’s meeting was a 25-Target Pointscore Championship, which was keenly contested across all grades.

The AA Grade win was once again secured by Atkin, as he shot an impressive 92/93 to eventually take out the honours from Don Pratt with 91/93.

Brian Spring won the A Grade competition with a perfect score of 75/75, followed by runner-up Stuart Bowd with 71/75.

For the B Grade event, Brian Jarrett claimed an easy win, with his score of 72/75 seeing him well ahead of Peter Klieve on 66/75.

Doyle Yoannidis shot a 70/75 to secure C Grade ahead of Allan Humphries with 66/75.

25-Target Double Barrel Championship

THE wind picked up for the 25-Target Double Barrel Championship, but that did not prevent Kessegian from recording a perfect score to take out AA Grade.

He shot 25/25 to secure the victory from Pratt, who finished with 33/34.

A Grade was won by Bowd with another perfect score of 25/25, while Spring came in second with a credible 26/27.

Darren Murrell took out the B Grade competition with 20/25, followed by Frank Kentish who scored 25/31.

Young gun Tristan McKinnon displayed fine form in the C Grade event to shot 24/25 and take the win ahead of Yoannidis with 23/25.

10 Pair Double Rise

TOM Jenkins lifted his game in the 10 Pair Double Rise event, taking out the AA Grade honours with a final score of 19/20.

He was followed by runners-up Pratt and Malcolm Whitehead, both with 18/20.

A Grade saw Chambers with his second win for the day, this time in the A Grade competition.

He shot 17/20 to defeat Kevin Mules and Andrew Jenkins, who both scored 14/20.

Kentish shot 15/20 to claim the B Grade win from Brian Case and Murrell, each with 12/20.

The C Grade honours were shared between Robert Marato and Bridgette McKinnon, who both finished the event with 14/20.

The Mount Gambier Gun Club’s next monthly event will be held on March 3, a week earlier than usual.
