Basketball: South East stars earn selection

THE Limestone Coast was well represented in the Country Basketball League South West Conference end-of-season awards, with four players making the All Star 5 lineup.

Millicent fared well, with both Emily Winter and Olivia Fuller in the five, while for Mount Gambier, Kane De Wit and Matthew Berkefeld were named.

Fuller enjoyed a stellar season, averaging 20.36 points-per-game.

She had a season-high 32 points against the Portland Coasters, along with 28 against the Geelong Supercats and 23 against the Terang Tornadoes.

Fuller worked well inside the paint, with 82 shots made and only a handful attempted from beyond the arc.

While Winter played less games, she was still one of the highest average scorers for the Magic side, with and average of 16.57 points-per-game.

She also attempted few shots from outside the paint, with 47 made from two-point territory.

Her best was against the Tornadoes, with 27 points.

There was never really a doubt De Wit would make the All Star lineup after such a dominant year around the boards.

Missing just one game for the season, De Wit averaged 24.2 points-per-game.

His season-highcame against the Coasters, where he sunk 33 points, while he also managed 31 against the Colac Kookas and 30 against the Ararat Redbacks.

De Wit was on target from outside the three-point arc, with 25 shots made.

While Berkefeld’s averages were down on his teammate’s, he managed double figures for every one of his 12 games.

He left his best for last, with 29 points against the Kookas in the grand final, but unfortunately it was not enough to claim the ultimate team honours, with the flag heading to Colac.
