Golf: Summer competition heats up

BEAT THE HEAT: Division 1 winner Dianne Perryman (back left), Division 2 winner Lucy Richards, Division 1 runner-up Helen Myers (front) and Division 2 runner-up Carol Megaw.

A SMALL field tried to beat the heat forecast last Wednesday at the Blue Lake Golf Links, teeing off at 7.30 with a shot-gun start while competing in the second round of the Summer Trophy.

As with the weather, the scores carded are heating up the leader board for the trophy, with Division 2’s Lucy Richards still in a purple patch, scoring 38 points in the stableford event and earning another three points for a clear lead.

Carol Megaw also added her name to the list with two points after coming in as runner-up on 37.

They both also took away the vouchers for the day in their division.

Handicapper Dianne Perryman added her name to the leader board with one point after carding 36 points and winning the Division 1 voucher, while vice captain Helen Myers took out the runner-up voucher with 33.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Perryman in Division 1 and Lesley McPherson in Division 2.

The pro-shot went begging when there were no recipients to land on the green of the par 3 fifth hole.

Today’s event is the third round of the Summer Trophy played in par format, with a longest drive novelty event included.
