Golf: Blue Lake veteran produces dominant display

VETERAN Blue Lake Golf Club golfer Gavin Sparrow’s recent good form was on display Saturday as he scored nett 62.

Sparrow defeated a field of over 80 golfers to claim the overall prize.

Michael Egan claimed the A Grade honours with nett 64, but required a count-back to edge out Marc Dalton.

Cameron Saint rounded out the placings on 65.

David Adkins won B Grade with nett 62, ahead of John Kamp on 63 and Adam Jones with 64.

David McKenzie scored nett 63 to win C Grade ahead of Brian Dunn (69) and Steve Dwyer (70).

Balls were paid down to nett 68, which included Matthew Jennings, Sam Letizia, Martin Markiewicz, Geoff Munt, Colin Ferguson, Stephen Von Duve, Setio Shanahan, Simon Kiselbach, Tim Bates and David Johnston.

The pro-shot on the fifth went to Bob White and on the 16th to Ian Bown, while Todd Williams eagled the 12th.

Nearest to the pin on the 14th went to Greg Cooper, while the long drives went to Williams in A Grade and Adam Jones in B Grade.

Williams also won least putts.

Josie Ashby won the women’s competition with nett 72.

Ashby also won the long drive while Lynn Annand won the ball.

The hole-in-one cash jackpot is now $257.

Johnson clear winner

A FIELD of 34 players greeted the starter Tuesday and leaving the field in his wake with a score of eight-up was Graham Johnson.

Six shots back taking out second place on two-up was Zack Williams and rounding out the places, also on two-up, was Ian Bown.

Balls were paid down to one-up, which included Nick Childs, Trevor Finnis, Brett Perryman, Ryan Williams and Ray Patching.

The pro-shot on the fifth hole went to John Kamp, while the best back nine winner was Johnson.

The hole-in-one voucher jackpot is now $1517.

Wednesday daylight savings competition

THE daylight savings competition continues to prove popular, with 34 players participating this week.

It was Brendon Hirth who showed them the way, recording a score of 25 points.

Gary Stevens was shot further back, with Martin Markiewicz another shot back in third.

The pro-shot on the 14th hole went to Stephen Bartholomew and on the 16th to Bill Burley.

Shots of the day went to Stephen Bartholomew (10th hole), Gary Stevens (11th), Fiona Punton (12th), Greg Cooper (13th), Michael Dedonatis (14th), Alan Gale (15th), Alan Gale (16th), Setio Shanahan (17th) and Bruce Morale (18th).

WITH week two of the Super 3’s done and dusted it was the team of Ben Wilson, John Howard and Craig moody who secured the victory on eight points.

Shots of the day went to, Mathew Fox (first hole), Tony Steen (second), Roger Doody (fifth), Helen Myers (fifth women), John Howard (eighth), Andrew Clements (ninth), Mathew Fox (18th), Lee Anderson (18th).

Overall points are Sean Pudney 11, Neal Doody eight, Ben Wilson eight, Keon Stevenson eight, Jason Knight six, Adrian Wallace four, Tony Steen zero and Helen Myers zero.

Quiz night

THE Linksview Bar and Bistro will host a quiz night on February 16 to raise money for local teacher Sarah MacDowell who is undergoing Multiple Sclerosis treatments.

Trivia with a Twist will host the night of guaranteed fun.

There will be raffles, auctions and great prizes on the night.
