THE State Government’s Active Club Program has provided funding to three South East sporting clubs for the development of facilities, programs and equipment.

The Redbacks Hockey Club, South East Women’s Football Association (SEWFA) and the West Gambier Cricket Club were all recently congratulated by Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell for their successful applications.

“Round 44 of the Active Club program has provided assistance to strengthen and sustain sporting organisations,” Bell said.

“I am pleased the government assists clubs throughout the region by providing them an opportunity to apply for grants.”

With clubs able to apply for funding up to $5000, these donations will go a long way in helping those selected continue to develop.

Redbacks Hockey Club president Noelene Moore was thrilled with the announcement.

“These funds will allow the club to purchase equipment such as hockey sticks, shin guards, training resources as well as replacing goalie equipment for their junior teams,” she said.

“The club currently has three junior teams, Under 12 Girls, Under 15 Girls and Under 12 Boys.

“These funds will allow us to develop the skill and love of the game by focusing our resources on this group of players.”

West Gambier Cricket Club president Shane Dycer also welcomed the funding.

“This funding will allow us to construct a hard wicket pitch at the Tenison Woods College oval for our juniors,” he said.

“We have a very successful junior program at our club and this will assist with the development and training program for our juniors.”

The SEWFA will use the funds to purchase new goal posts and nets.

The next round of the Active Club Program is now open.
