Bowls: Port Mac duo goes back-to-back

CHAMPIONS: Heather Richards and Carol Schmidt claimed the women’s championship pairs title for the Port MacDonnell Bowling Club last Sunday.

CAROL Schmidt and Heather Richards have claimed back-to-back women’s championship pairs titles at the Port MacDonnell Bowling Club.

Playing Lyn Vanderley and Elaine Pruis in the final, the duo was able to win by a narrow margin of five shots.

A total of eight teams entered the championship played on Sunday and the first round saw Schmidt and Richards account for mother-daughter combination Karen Peterson and Robyn Burley.

This round also saw Val Praetz and Kay Feast win over Colleen Tarca and Roma Henderson, while Sharon Perryman and Jan Dowdell defeated Judy Grosvener and Jennie Tilley.

Vanderley and Pruis took care of Megan Wilson and Sharon Bruhn to progress to the next round, where they defeated Feast’s pair to make the final.

Richards’ pair accounted for Dowdell’s team to gain the grand final berth.

In the final, the accurate and steady bowling from Schmidt and Richards was applauded by spectators, who were also impressed by the challengers.

Vanderley and Pruis were only three shots behind nearing the end of the game, but the accuracy of the winners saw them go on to win with a five-shot margin.
