Cricket: Big task for Mil Lel

UNBEATEN SO FAR: Jake Schutz will pad up tomorrow on 44 runs, made in the late overs of last Saturday.

IT is hard to mount a case for Mil Lel against a charging North Sportsman’s outfit in day two of Round 9 of Barber Shield cricket at Frew Park tomorrow.

Mil Lel struggled to face the Tigers’ bowling attack and was all out for a dismal 93 runs last Saturday.

A three-wicket haul from captain Tim Young was a big contributor to North’s early control of the game.

If it was not for a solid score of 45 from Daniel Justin who steadied the ship, the Tigers’ chase could have been easier.

While North still sits in the box seat for victory, it is not out of the woodwork just yet.

An unbeaten 44 from Jake Schutz has put the Tigers on the front foot, but 4/65 off 24 overs is far from North’s best performance of the season.

Jack Armfield will join Schutz at the crease as the Tigers aim to bat out the day.

Matthew McInerney is next to pad up for North and if he partners with Schutz it is likely the two will surpass the total before long and power through to hand the Tigers a comfortable victory.

McInerney is coming off a top performance at the South Australian Senior Country Cricket Carnival.

At the time of going to print the South East side was battling with Mid North in the grand final.

McInerney had posted both a 129 and 72 from the two minor round games he participated in.

If he brings that same momentum into today’s clash it is unlikely Mil Lel stands a chance.

It will take a big effort for the hosts to hold the current competition front-runners to a small score and it is likely North will take control from the outset.
