Baseball: Double header baseball action

Baseball game. Baseball ball in grass.

THE Mount Gambier and District Baseball League held back-to-back Division 1 double headers over the weekend.

Tigers 3 d Central 2

Game one on Friday was a tight affair with Tigers victorious by a solitary run.

Central scored its first run in the bottom of the second from consecutive singles to Jeremy Aston and Koby Chant, which saw Aston cross the plate from Lachie Ridding’s infield hit.

Tigers replied in the top of the fourth and scored again in the sixth to lead.

Not to be outdone, Central replied in the bottom of that inning when Kyall McClean doubled to centre-field and managed to cross the plate from a wild pitch by Tigers’ Tyler Horrigan, tying the score at two all.

In the top of the eighth, Brodie Foster’s bat worked a treat when he hit a two into right-field.

He scored on Jesse Foster’s hit to the infield.

Central could not reply this time, which left the Tigers with a 3-2 win.

Tigers 4 dw Central 4

IN the second Friday night game, the end result was a four-all draw between Central and Tigers.

Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the first to hold the early advantage, as Brayden Morton and Tyler Horrigan both found themselves on base as the result of consecutive errors from Lachie Ridding at second base.

Morton scored on an infield hit from Karl Ransom and Horrigan scored on Brodie Foster’s single.

In the top of the fifth, Central’s Koby Chant got on board from a wild throw off first base and scored on Lachie Tilley’s hit into an error.

Tilley then scored on Nathan Meinck’s double to deep left-field.

Ethan and Dylan Chuck also scored on Meinck’s hit as Central led 4-2.

Tigers replied in the sixth with one run, as Brodie Foster walked and scored on Dyllan Lane’s single.

Tigers’ final run came in the bottom of the seventh, with Jesse Foster walking and scoring on Brodie Foster’s hit to left-field.

South 4 d Federal 0

THE first Saturday game saw South Indians defeat Federal 4-0.

Half of these runs came from the top of the second inning, as Damien O’Dine singled to left-field and scored when Ben Nash was hit by a pitched ball with bases loaded.

This was followed by Travis Lockwood finding himself at first after an error by pitcher Alex Reppin, before scoring on a wild throw from third base.

The other half of the Indians’ runs came in the top of the sixth.

O’Dine found himself on base again after a first base error and scored on Lockwood’s in-field hit.

Steve Issacson also got on base thanks to another error and scored the Indians final run when he crossed the plate due to a fielders choice.

South 9 d Federal 3

SOUTH claimed another convincing win over Federal in its second match.

The first score for the game saw the Indians with a single run in the second.

Travis Lockwood got on board from a fielders choice and then scored on a wild throw from Federal shortstop Alex Reppin to put his team on the board.

Federal replied with two runs in the top of the third.

A safe hit to Reppin and a hit pitched ball to Wade Chant saw them both cross the home plate from Nathan Taylor’s deep hit to centre-field.

However, the damage was done when the Indians added six runs in the bottom of the fourth.

South then added two more runs in the fifth to seal the deal.

These saw Ryan Walter pick a walk and score on a wild throw from catcher Josh Wilsmore, while Ben Nash hit safely to first base and scored on another wild pitch.

Federal could only muster one more run in the game when Taylor found himself at first after being hit by a pitched ball and scored on Clay Carpenter’s error hit to second base.
