Golf: Junior golf pathway offered

REGISTRATIONS OPEN: Last year’s champions (pictured) will join the many other South East junior golfers this season, with registrations now open for the 2018 Junior Golf Program.

REGISTRATIONS are now open for the Golf South East 2018 junior golf program.

With team selections to be made in June, the program aims to provide tuition from PGA certified coaches, along with valuable on-course experience for young golfers from beginner to advanced levels.

Made up of three groups of junior golfers, the first step for budding golfers is the SE Futures MyGolf program which will be conducted using equipment and activities designed for children with a mix of coaching, basic skill development, team games and fun.

MyGolf is the national junior development program designed for five to 12 year olds.

With former world number one Jason Day as its ambassador, the program is the major driver of junior golf participation in Australia.

Young players in the South East region are now able to access all of the training resources offered in the metropolitan regions.

After the Mygolf program, the next steps are the Academy and Development squads.

Players in these groups have gained a golf handicap and are now venturing into competition golf on a regular basis.

Coaches will take these players through the various skill development stages which will enable them to eventually participate in regional and state junior golf events.

Along with various individual achievements the South East Junior golf team currently holds the highly prized Country SA Brett Ogle Cup.

The program hits off at Kingston on February 11.

Details of the Academy and MyGolf program are available online at www.golfse.com.au or www.mygolf.org.au (enter p/c 5279), while program coordinator Mary Winser can be contacted on 0438 057 435.
