Bowls: Wilson trio victorious

LAST Tuesday’s round of night owls at the Port MacDonnell Bowling Club was won by Skye, Adam and Taj Wilson.

The previous round was a closer affair, with a countback of the two-game winners required to determine results.

This saw Suzanne Connell’s team claim the honours on 48 points, followed by Adam Wilson’s side with 47+11 and Lyn Vanderley’s team with 47+9.

The club is pleased to see good numbers continue to enjoy the night owls competition.

Social Bowls

THE most recent round of social bowls was held last Wednesday, which saw 33 players take to the Port MacDonnell Bowling Club greens.

Of these competitors there were four two-game winning teams vying for the prize.

In the end it was Des Myers, Rod Sutton and Danny Gaut on 51+17 who won the event on a countback.

Shirley Taylor and Lance Fisher filled the runners-up position with 50 points, while Marilyn Sutton and Reg Fisher rounded out the podium with 48.

The previous round saw Des Myers and Bill Richards with the win.

Championship Triples

SUNDAY saw the Port MacDonnell Bowling Club’s championship triples played for the men and women.

The final of the men’s championship was contested between Peter Bruhn, Bart Lethlean and Adam Wilson against Chris Richards, John Broadbent and Bill Richards.

Wilson’s team had defeated Bruce Bain and Ron Cox’s sides to reach the final, while Richards had won over the Danny Gaut and Reg Fisher teams.

The matches were played in hot weather conditions, with play continuing until the club’s cut-off temperature was reached and then a break was taken until the temperature dropped again.

At the end of the final it was Bill Richards’ team which took out the honours and the 2018 title.

For the women, Robyn Burley’s team of Colleen Tarca and Roma Henderson took on Heather Richards, Jan Dowdell and Judy Grosvener.

Burley’s triple accounted for Cheryle Doddridge and Val Praetz to make the final, while Heather Richards’ team had a bye before defeating Joy Bilney.

The Richards’ team had a slight edge for most of the match, before a six scored in the last couple of ends sealed the deal and gave them the 2018 championship.

Spectators enjoyed watching the finals and all players are to be congratulated for the way they played considering the conditions on the day.
