THE Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy (LCRSA) has just announced a new partnership for its pilot program.

The University of South Australia (Uni SA) has agreed to become a partner of the LCRSA, helping to boost the profile of the academy around the state.

“The LCRSA is committed to providing local athletes with the opportunity to achieve excellence in sport and life,” LCRSA Coordinator Tony Elletson said.

“Uni SA is an institution that also fosters excellence, which is why we are so pleased they have chosen to partner with us.”

The academy is currently providing 12 athletes from right across the Limestone Coast Region with strength and conditioning programs and elite education.

“There is enormous talent in regional areas and this program helps athletes realise that talent,” Elletson said.

“Athletes that do not live in the metro area face many hurdles in achieving their sporting goals.

“The Academy is working towards removing some of these hurdles for not only the athletes but the families as well.”

“Uni SA is going to be working with the athletes on Diet and Nutrition and the athletes will also use the Uni SA campus for all other educational modules.

“We look forward to working with the Uni towards expanding the role it plays in the Academy going forward as we work towards growing the academy itself and we are extremely thankful to the Uni for its support.”

Regional Manager for the Mount Gambier Campus of Uni SA Ian McKay said Uni SA was looking forward to contributing to the progress of the region’s athletes as the academy continues to develop.

“The University of South Australia is excited to be a foundation partner of the Limestone Coast Regional Sports Academy,” he said.

“The Academy is a wonderful initiative in our region providing important opportunities for our up-and-coming elite athletes.

“UniSA is proud to be Australia’s University of Enterprise and being a partner with the Limestone Coast Regional Academy of Sports fits very well with our commitment to be the University for all South Australians.”

To further add to the program, on February 12 the academy will run its first education session with the athletes – Goal setting – an introduction to sports psychology.

It will be run by consultant for South Australian Sports Institute and Cricket Tasmania Emma Mattey.
