Golf: Trent schools field with maiden hole-in-one

ON TARGET: Trent Eitzen was pleased with his hole-in-one on the eighth hole at the Attamurra golf course on the weekend.

TRENT Eitzen schooled the field on Saturday at the Attamurra golf course, with an excellent five-up and along the way claimed his maiden hole-in-one on the eighth hole.

In A Grade it was Eitzen then daylight, with Joe Clements limping into second on one-down.

In B Grade it was a much closer affair, with Graham Greenwood, four-up, claiming victory by count-back from hard working committeeman Michael Rees, also on four-up.

In C Grade Craig Wirth took the chocolates on three-up, with David Pike second a shot further back.

In D Grade Anthony Bolton finished on three-up, with second place belonging to Haydn Dow on one-up.

Players needed to finish square or better to claim a ball, except for the unlucky Pete Miller who missed out on count-back.

Winners included, Michael Foran, Peter Lock, John Shirley, Barry Brook, Don Coulter, Ricky Walker, Callum Harvey, Parker Smith, Tom Jellesma, Lyall Fartch, Darren Harding, Gregory Smyth, David McPherson, Peter Jones, Mathew Jennings and Stephen Gray.

Eight players managed a birdie-two on one of the par 3’s, including Mick Gill, Bryan Walsh, Peter Gardner, Richard Gosling, Kym Sykes, Miller, Clements and Shirley.

Miller also took the pro-shot on the 16thhole and unsurprisingly no one got closer than Eitzen’s ace on the eighth.

Women’s Par

KERRY Pedlar and Penne Saffin shared round-of-the-day honours on Saturday, both finishing on two-up, with Pedlar claiming first place on count-back.

Lyn Hudson and Faye Mainwaring both finished on one-up, with Hudson taking third by count-back.

Mary-Ann Koerner, Sue Coulter and Helen McIntyre all finished square and in their positions respectively on count-back.

Mainwaring also bagged the only two for the women, with Yvonne Shirley claiming shot-of-the-day on the eighth hole.

Stableford

GRAHAM Greenwood posted the score-of-the-day on Thursday, taking the winner’s cheque with 40 points.

Greenwood needed all of them too, with a quartet of players – Craig Foster, Thomas Miles, Sam Ferguson and Barry Brook – all on 39 points and finishing respectively on count-back.

A small field of only 42 players due to the heat meant only 37 points or better was required to claim a ball, except for the unlucky David McPherson who missed out on count back.

Winners included, Peter Buckingham, Jim Leane, Stacy Fiegert, Russell Oehms and Michael Rookas.

Chris Gabriel claimed the pro-shot on 16, while Kevin Cook claimed the shot-of-the-day on the eighth hole.

Cook and David Anderson were the only players to manage a birdie-two.

Summer Cup heats up

WITH only one round remaining in the Driscoll Summer Cup, Graham Thomas still sits atop the leader board as he has for most of the 13 weeks.

However, eight players are within six points and with only the worst score to be improved upon, some have more wiggle room than others.

John Sandery sits six adrift, but only needs to beat 32 points to move forward.

Lyndsay Copeman lies just three behind Thomas, but will move forward if he can post better than 34 points.

If Thomas can post 38 points or better he should be safe, but if he remains on his current total there could be a last round upset.
