Golf: Ferguson claims Saturday win

Ferguson goes low

A TOTAL of 84 competitors took part in a stroke round and it was Col Ferguson who made light work of the Blue Lake Golf Club Public Links on Saturday.

Ferguson managed an impressive bogey-free round along with two birdies to shoot a two under 66 off the stick and claim the overall prize for the day with a nett 60.

In A Grade Ian Bown continues his excellent run of form with a fine round of 72-10-62 nett to edge out Michael Watts by one shot as he carded a round of 76-13-63 and in third place was former club champion Mar Dalton returning to the clubhouse also with a subpar round of 67-2-65 nett.

Club handicapper Geoff Munt returned to form on Saturday and posted a winning score in B Grade with a round of 86-23-63 nett.

He claimed the victory from Dartmoor member Jason McCrae one back on 79-15-64 and in third place was Kevin Howell finishing with a score of 82-16-67 nett.

Former president and life member Gavin Sparrow led the way in C Grade with a round of 101-33-68 nett from Brain Vawser who was one shot back in second place on a countback on 93-24-69 and in third place was Ken Milsop matching Vawser’s score but had to be content with third place as he carded 93-24-69 nett.

Ball run down winners were Sam Letizia 67, Setio Shanahan 67, Stephen Smith 68, Robert Lindner 69, Ben Wilson 69, Scott Bissett 69, Kieran Ashby 69, David Dowie 69, Bryce Cutting 70 and Daniel Christian 70 on a countback.

Pro shots on the day were taken out by John Millhouse on the par three, fifth and Brett Perryman on the par three, 16th as the pair both won four balls.

Nearest the pins for the day were won by Jak Ryan (B Grade) and Brian Vawser (C Grade).

Long Drives were Kieran Ashby (A Grade), Jason McCrae (B Grade) and Dieter Rostig (C Grade) and the player with the least putts for the day was Simon Perryman.

Ladies results: Fiona Punton 64 nett, Marlene Lingham 70 nett, Dianne Perryman 72 nett.

Nearest to the pin was Josie Ashby on the par three, fifth, Long drive on the 18th went to Sue Agars and the least putts was taken out by Fiona Punton.

Tuesday competition

ANOTHER good field took part in the regular midweek competition as 55 players contested a stableford event and it was the ever consistent Ian Bown who led the way with a fine round of 40 points.

Bown narrowly edged out big hitting Marc Dalton who was one shot further back on 39 and rounding out the placings was Greame Anderson fresh back from holidays with a score of 38 points.

Ball run down winners were Trevor McLean 37, David Lamont 37, Jim Ferrazola 36, Wayne Dunford 36 and Noel Gosden 36 on a countback.

Best front nine went to Bill Burley 21 points.

Winner of the pro shot was David Johnston on the par three, fifth as he collected four balls for his nearest the pin.

Wednesday daylight savings competition

GOOD numbers turned out on Wednesday and it was Sam Letizia who led the way with his power game as he carded a fine score of 23 points.

Letizia followed by Greg Cooper who posted a score of 22 to edge out talented sportsperson Bruce Morale who finished third on a countback with a score of 21 points.

Pro shots were taken out by Michael Jazepcyzk on the second hole and Bob White on the fifth as the pair collected six balls each.

Shots of the day went to VJ Smith (first), Michael Egan (third), Trevor McLean (fourth), Beryl Mahoney (fifth), VJSmith (seventh), Michael Egan (eighth) and Sam Letizia (ninth).

Eagle cash jackpot: $82.

Thursday – nine-hole: Frank Pinneri 21 points, Geoff Munt 19, David McKenzie 17 c/b.

Friday – Daniel Christian 29 nett, Brendon Hirth 32, Jenny Johnson 34. Putts: Andrew Clements 15.

Sunday – 18-hole competition: Barry Humphries 39 points c/b, Setio Shanahan 39 c/b, David Dowie 37.

Thursday night super 3’s

A NEW innovative to the Blue Lake Public Golf Links coming next month will be the Super 3’s which will be a nine hole Ambrose format every Thursday evening in February.

Teams need to register by 5.30pm and will play a three-person ambrose match play against another trio on the night.

The competition will kick off Thursday, February 1.

A nomination sheet is in Huddy’s Sportsbar, all are welcome.

There will be novelties on each hole for the night and the winning overall team will win a party valued at over $500.

Due to extreme heat

DUE to the extreme heat predicted this Saturday and Sunday the course and clubhouse will be open for play from 5.30am to allow golfers to tee off early to avoid the heat.
