SOUTH Indians Baseball Club is about to run its major fundraiser for the year, with an ambrose golf day to be held at the Blue Lake Golf Links on February 18.

But it is more than just another club fun day, with the general public invited to submit a team, with a cool $25,000 prize up for grabs for a hole-in-one.

The prize will be run on the par 3 second hole, which measures 134 metres, quite reachable by the average person.

To add to the enticement, the amount of prizes is unlimited – that is, more than one person can win the $25,000 on the day, not shared, but the full amount each.

Club president Travis Lockwood said the annual event has been run for four years, but after introducing a $10,000 hole-in-one prize last year, numbers improved, with 17 teams of four taking to the fairways.

Numbers this year will be capped at 100 players in total.

Lockwood said the incentive of the $25,000 dollar prize and the relaxed feel of the tournament ensured it appealed to a wide demographic.

“There have been a few hole-in-ones go off up at the Blue Lake, but we have not had one go off in the tournament yet,” he said.

“It is quite reachable on the second hole and it would be pretty handy to win.

“But other than the hole-in-one, it is also a good time for footy clubs in their pre-season if they want to hold a get-together.

“It is good for cricket teams who are maybe going into finals and want a fun day together before they play the finals, or even work places who just want a fun day out.

“It is all about fun really, with that $25,000 up for grabs.”

Teams of four are asked to register at the Blue Lake Golf Club, on Facebook or by contacting Lockwood direct by February 14, although some nominations may be taken on the day.

Anyone interested who may not be able to form a team can put their name down and be placed into one.

Scores are handicapped, catering for golfers and non-golfers alike.

The playing fee covers a free barbecue, with other prizes available on the day, including long drive, nearest the pin and the winning team.

Players are asked to be available for registration on the day by 10am for a 10.30am shotgun start.
