Bowls: Women team up for Lower South East tournament

FIVE STRONG: Maryke Heaver, Jane Crowder, Joy Bilney, Heather Richards and Del Parsons took out the overall win in the Mount Gambier RSL’s annual five-a-side tournament on Tuesday.

THE Mount Gambier RSL Bowling Club held its annual women’s five-a-side tournament recently, with players from all over the Lower South East competing in the event.

The overall winners for the day were a combination of bowlers from several clubs.

The team was made up of Millicent’s Del Parsons, Mount Gambier RSL’s Jane Crowder and Maryke Heaver, along with Port MacDonell’s Joy Bilney and Heather Richards.

The tournament, which is unique to the Mount Gambier RSL Bowling Club, also attracted bowlers from Bordertown, Portland RSL, Naracoorte, Naracoorte RSL, Penola and Mount Gambier.

The schedule saw two games of fours and singles played before lunch, followed by two games of pairs and triples after the break.

Prize money was presented to the overall winners, while also to each of the section winners.

The winning combination also took out three of the four group prizes, while Mount Gambier RSL’s Veronica Opie and Jenny Bowering won the best two games of pairs.
