Archery: Tremelling fires back to the top

ALL OR NOTHING: It was the last chance for a practice for the Blue Lake Archers before this weeks invitational tournament.

FINAL preparations for the Blue Lake Archers invitational tournament were started last Sunday morning with a working bee to prepare the outdoor range, this was followed Monday night by repairs and set up of the indoor range.

After Sunday’s working bee the afternoon was dedicated to the final practice of the outdoor Sydney round that will be used in tomorrow’s outdoor tournament.

Seven of the nine archers on the field took the opportunity to tune up and sort out any bugs in their equipment and technique.

In a touch of luck the weather conditions during the afternoon were almost identical to those forecast for this weekend’s outdoor tournament event.

Garry Jacques kicked off his day with a confidence boost, scoring 57 points from a possible 60 from his first six arrows at the 70 metre range.

Ben Kilsby went one point better than Jacques to open his day with an All Gold end, Kilsby then went on to dominate the off the bow scores throughout the day.

A glitch with the usually reliable electronic scoring occurred during the afternoon, the archers were able to continue uninterrupted as the club double scores, using both paper score sheets and electronic scoring.

A quick reset behind the scenes brought the electronic scoring back on line.

As it turned out the glitch had affected clubs throughout Australia, apparently caused by a program update bug.

Phil Tremelling was the quiet achiever in the group as he rose back toward the top of pile with a magnificent effort, his recurve bow firing true and accurately.

Tremelling’s first All Gold end since returning to a recurve bow was an overdue bonus to top off his day.

At the end of proceedings Tremelling had done the work needed to sneak by a consistent effort by Len Bayley.

The handicap adjusted scoreline showed Tremelling had broken though his benchmark by nine points to claim the win by 15 points over Bayley.
