Division 1
Mount Gambier Red 86/16 d Lucindale 53/0

MOUNT Gambier RSL Red continued its fine form in the Division 1 Open Pennant competition on Saturday when it welcomed Lucindale onto its greens.

Winning on all three rinks, Zac Pearson, Robert Corner, Deane Wilkinson and skipper Andy Ashby claimed a 17-9 victory over Norm Watts’ four.

This was followed up by Jason Kuring, Peter Roachock, Andrew Simpson and Rex Heins, as they won against Rob Willmott’s team 30-24.

The biggest win for the day came from the rink of Jamie Lambert, Ralph Stafford, Michael Fox and Graham Ellis.

They readily accounted for Eric Pitt’s side 37-12, collecting an eight early in the game.

Millicent 86/16 d Mount Gambier RSL Blue 53/0

THE Division 1 Blue team was not as fortunate as its Red counterparts, as it travelled to meet a strong Millicent opposition.

Mount Gambier RSL was unable to win on any of its rinks, suffering a loss to its hosts.

Dougie McPhail, David Edwards, Ben Masters and Glenn Wright were the closest to a win, as they went down to Bryan Roper’s side 27-29.

Tim Wrightson, Ian MacIntosh, Gary Feast and Strawb Masters were also off the mark with a 13-24 defeat to Terry Barnes’ team.

The third rink saw an all uphill battle for Gary Bowering, Fiona Pearson, Greg Whitehead and Ron Ploenges, after they dropped three fives in the first 10 ends.

They finished with a 16-33 defeat to Iain Campbell’s team.

Division 2

Penola 75/14 d Mount Gambier RSL Red 61/2

IN the Division 2 competition, Mount Gambier RSL’s Red team was only able to snare two points from their encounter with Penola.

The winning rink consisted of Paul Griffiths, Graeme Smith, Graham Dent and skipper Ian Moulden, who defeated Peter Thompson’s team 27-23.

However, the other rinks did not fair so well, with Wayne Legutko’s four always just behind in their 21-24 loss to Scott Degenhardt, while Bob Milligan’s side had a lean second half to go down 13-23.

Mount Gambier RSL Blue 88/16 d Kingston 45/0

MOUNT Gambier RSL’s Division 2 Blue found impressive form against the higher-ranked Kingston side on Saturday.

In fact, two rinks held their opposition scoreless for much of the first half.

John Heaver, Harry Childs, David O’Donnell and Des Moulden dominated Alan Emery’s four and finished with a solid 31-11 win.

Likewise, Graham Wilson, John Forster, Rick Fallaise and Karen Doman were well on top of Bill Scott’s team.

Kingston won six of the last seven ends to improve its card, but Doman’s crew still won 28-15.

John Robinson, Jim Cruise, Malcolm Williamson and John Spehr had a tight game against Colin Bobridge’s team until end 18.

From there the RSL collected two’s and three’s to win convincingly, 29-19.

Division 3

Kingston 68/12 d Mount Gambier RSL Red 58/4

KINGSTON was the stumbling block for the Mount Gamier RSL Red side in Round 1 and the result was repeated at Kingston on Saturday.

Albie McIntyre’s and Craig Pearson’s rinks got over the line, but Bob White’s four were no match for Peter Wakefield’s, seeing the hosts with the shots required for the overall win.

Millicent Blue 115/16 d Mount Gambier RSL Blue 42/0

THE Division 3 Blue side crashed out of the top four when it suffered a convincing loss at the hands of hosts Millicent Blue.

Les James’ rink was the most competitive, but there was little to be done against the onslaught from the opposition.
