ON TARGET: Darren Bilney shared round-of-the-day honours with David Pike at the Attamurra golf course on Saturday.

DARREN Bilney and David Pike shared the round-of-the-day honours on Saturday at the Attamurra golf course, with both posting 40 points and claiming their respective grade winner’s voucher.

Pike claimed C Grade from Barry Brook on 39 points, while Bilney, whose 40 points equates to a four-under-the-card 68, claimed A Grade from Wayne Elliot on 39 on count-back from Daryl Morgan.

Also on 39 points was Darren Harding, whose dreams of a single figure handicap draw closer with another win in B Grade.

Mick Gill finished second with 38 points.

In D Grade Ricky Walker claimed first place with 36 points in front of Burt Van Nispen on 35.

Scoring was tough and the blustery conditions meant players required only 35 points to win a ball, with Warrnambool visitor David McMahon somehow claiming a ball for 34 points.

More legitimate winners included Graham Greenwood, Patrick O’Donnell, Graham Thomas, Bob Dalgarno, Digger Richardson, Craig Wirth, Bill DeGaris, Paul Griffiths, Mark Winterfield, Craig Foster, Martin Fleming, Parker Smith, Elliot King, Matty Knowles, John Hopkins and David McPherson.

Thirteen players made a birdie-two, including Nick Black, Paul Reade, Brian Simmonds, Russell Oehms, Peter Lock, Tod Lillicrap, Elliot, King, Gill, Harding and Fleming.

The pro-shot on the 16th hole went to Winterfield and the highly prized shot-of-the-day on the eighth was claimed by club champion Morgan, with both players making their birdie putts.

Women’s Stableford

A FIELD of 17 women refused to be daunted by the blustery and sometimes wet conditions on Saturday and Jade Delaney managed them better than everyone, posting 36 points to claim a two point victory over Di O’Donnell and Heather Barry, both on 34 points.

O’Donnell claimed second place on a count-back.

Heather Chapman posted 33 points and Bernie Jennings rounded out the top five on 32.

Barry also collected the pro-shot on 16 hole, while Jennings double-dipped with shot-of-the-day honours on the eighth.

Thursday Stableford

SAM Mainwaring posted the round-of-the-day and claimed the $100 winner’s cheque on Thursday with 42 points.

This saw him two points clear of Bob Dalgarno and Matt Bryant, both on 40, with Dalgarno taking second place on count-back.

Nick Black was alone on 39 points, with David Anderson, Des Guerin, John Sandery, Michael Griffiths and John Maxwell all tied on 38.

It took 36 points and a good back nine to win a ball, with as many 36 pointers missing out, as winning one.

Those on the right side of fate included, Paul Griffiths, Dave Boyce, Des Taylor, Nic Clayton, Darren Griffin, Setio Shanahan, Greg Hudson and Henry Forbes.

Eight players managed a birdie-two, with winners including Peter Buckingham, Jim Leane, Michael Rees, Barry Brook, Kym Sutherland, Maxwell, Griffiths and Mainwaring.

The pro-shot on the 16th hole went to Rees and Ben Robinson claimed shot-of-the-day with a cracking nine-iron on the eighth.

Unfortunately he missed the putt.

Driscoll Summer Cup

ONLY two rounds remain in the Driscoll Summer Cup, with the final round to be played on January 25.

Still Graham Thomas continues to lead and while Greg Hudson, Bob Dalgarno and Lyndsay Copeman are best positioned to make a move, there are five other players within six points.
