ENTERTAINMENT was aplenty at the Borderline Speedway on Saturday night when it played host to its Tri Feature event where speedcars, wingless sprints and street stocks made their way to the Glenburnie circuit.

The speedcars returned to the Borderline Speedway for the first time in years and certainly put on a show.

It was an eventful A-Main for the speedcars who were contesting a round of their super series.

Despite the constant cautions throughout the 30-lap A-Main it was Travis Mills who claimed the feature race victory after a hard-fought battle with Troy Jenkins.

Reagan Angel finished third in an impressive dash for the finish after starting from position 16 on the grid.

It was anything but a flag-to-flag race, with restarts causing big shuffles in the final results.

Jenkins led for much of the 30-lap feature, but Mills did not give him any breathing space.

A restart with six laps remaining gave Mills the jump around the outside.

The carnage continued with four restarts in the remaining six laps, which opened up an opportunity for a lead change.

Jenkins edged ahead once again, but it was Mills on the final corner who found some additional speed, which allowed him to cross the finish line just ahead of Jenkins.

Meanwhile, night two of the Summer Slam Wingless sprint honours went to Dayne Bentvelzen.

He was closely followed by Daniel Storer and current Australia number one Joel Chadwick in an entertaining feature race.

Mitchell Broome waved the Mount Gambier flag in the wingless sprints class and advanced through to the 25-lap A-Main before greeting the chequered flag in 11th.

The Blue Lake Classic Street Stocks event was well supported with 28 drivers making their way to the Glenburnie circuit for the night of racing.

The total included a contingent of local competitors, which saw a reasonable crowd watch on with interest.

However, the overall honours were out of reach for the Mount Gambier drivers, with John Lodge junior’s performance far too good.

He was impressive from the first green light, starting from pole on the grid before powering his way to an early lead in the 25-lap event.

A smooth race with limited stoppages saw Mark Jennings forced to settle for runner-up.

He was closely followed by current Australian champion Rhys Heinrich.

A caution with 19 remaining saw Lodge ahead of the remainder of the field, followed by Morris Ahearn, Anthony Beare, Mark Jennings and Heinrich.

Lodge won his first heat and finished third in his second for his pole position.

Car troubles were aplenty through the field, with drivers at the front pulling into the infield with issues.

Mount Gambier driver – Beare – was unstoppable, with a victory in his first heat and was on the pace in the A-Main.

He found himself battling with Lodge, but car troubles came into play, which put a halt to his feature race victory hopes.

After a solid two heats, Morris Ahearn also pulled in, as did Jason Duell, while Cary Weston – who started from 11th on the grid – was also forced to the infield with a flat tyre.

Jennings was the best of the locals, with his second place, while next best was Jayden Edwards in fifth.

Penola’s Jeremy Weston and Scott Merrett also held their own, finishing eighth and 11th respectively from an original starting field of 22.
