THE Borderline Speedway hosted Round 2 of the 2017/18 Speedweek Series last Thursday night.
Victorian number 22 Dion Bellman led the charge in the heats, as he continued his impressive run at the Mount Gambier venue to win both heats he competed in, along with the A-Main honours.
Queensland’s Ryan Skennar once again tasted glory and was in the hunt for those all important points, while Victorian veteran Stephen Bell continued to show the young ones he has some tricks in the bag with a heat win of his own.
Another Queenslander quick off the mark was number 29 James Kennedy, who crossed the line with the honours in heat five.
Shane Van Duynhoven also snatched a win for the Victorians.
A scary moment saw Victorian Ash Clements quickly pull in field when a fire broke out in the car, but the safety crew acted promptly and with no injuries, Clements was able to hit the track again for his next heat.
After what was not the start Australia number three Josh Buckingham had hoped for, which saw him in the back of the C-Main, he shone through to take the checkers and a transfer to the B-Main race.
Queenslanders continued to serve it to the rest of the field, with hot-shot Ryan McNamara adding another win to his tally in the B-Main.
Queensland’s Ryan Skennar locked in another front row start in the A-Main, but it was the talent of Bellman who would take pole position.
The green was dropped and Skennar got the jump on the Borderline specialist Bellman.
However, this lead was short-lived when the Victorian reeled him in and checked out.
Later in the race Skennar came under more pressure when USA driver Frank Galusha found a sweet spot and stormed from seventh to snatch second place.
Another challenge was thrown at Skennar from South Australian Angelo Karoussis, but this time Skennar was able to shut the door and hold on for a top-three finish.
Karoussis was left to settle for fourth, while coming all the way from the C-Main, Buckingham ran the alphabet to be the hard charger of the night, finishing with a top 10 performance in the feature race.
The podium saw Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and America represented, with Bellman still undefeated at the Borderline track.
