MOUNT Gambier RSL and District Bowling Club’s Laurie Franklin claimed the Men’s C Grade Singles honours in ideal bowling conditions on Sunday.
After first defeating Chris Fenwick, he encountered Gary Walters.
This was a tight game, where Franklin survived stalling on the penultimate shot, while Walters edged closer over the next five ends.
Franklin finally took this game 22-18.
He then faced Alwyn Pfeiler in the final.
This was an even game before Franklin started to build a lead.
Sitting ahead 20-17 and needing one shot to win, Franklin played the perfect bowl to rest Pfeiler’s bowl from the jack.
Pfeiler tried unsuccessfully to reply and as a result Franklin took the championship 21-17.
