Master shares skill

UNITED Taekwondo Australia president Master Michael Muleta visited Mount Gambier and Millicent’s Azure Taekwondo Club over the weekend, where members took part in both grading and a seminar.

Azure Taekwondo administrator Tammy Todd said it was a weekend to remember.

“We had a fabulous two days with coloured belt grading, black belt grading and a seminar,” she said.

“All students were tested their rank level.”

The black belts had to perform with the lowest rank to the highest and then continued on with the remainder themselves, which included 12 patterns and all the basics.

“They had to spar 16 students at various levels, three boards to break at once with variation to the types of breaks, including flying side kick, knife hand strike and back kick,” Todd said.

“They had to know all theory.

“It was a very gruelling three hours, but it was very successful.”

Master Muleta was impressed with the standard of the students and congratulated instructor Kye Todd on his thoroughness.

“He follows the philosophy of the founder General Choi Hong Hi, that you have to earn your belt and understand why you are required to know all the components of Taekwondo,” Tammy Todd said.

The seminar the following day incorporated refining techniques and the power required behind them, with the use of proper body movement.

“Everyone came away learning something from Master Muleta who has 40 years of experience in Takewondo and are looking forward to his return,” Tammy said.

“Kye showed Master Muleta around some of the Iconic areas of Mount Gambier.

“He was surprised at what Mount Gambier had to offer – as this was his first visit – and he is looking forward to returning to the South East.”
