Shooting: Wright on target

LAKE Bonney Sporting Clays rounded out its 2017 season with a Christmas shoot which attracted 89 competitors.

The 60-target novelty event included a wide variety of challenging targets and it was Chris Wright who topped the field to take out the high gun honours with 55.

In AA Grade Danny Bellinger claimed the win with 54, while Mick Banning scored a credible 50 to secure the A Grade bragging rights.

B Grade saw Scott Harlock claim a one shot win over Garry Dangerfield, finishing on 47.

A three-way tie left the C Grade result up to a shoot-off, which saw Robert Michalski claim the victory over Matthew Sorella and Darren Beyer.

Neville Kent and Peter Caskey took out the Veterans and Super Veterans classes respectively, while the women’s event was won by Maddie Redman with 46.

In the Juniors Mason Patzel was crowned as the winner with 48, while the Sub Juniors was won by Declan Wright.

Among the difficult targets in the day’s event, an occasional random ‘special target’ was also in the mix.

The lucky shooters who managed to break one of these targets received a special mention at the end of the shoot and a free drink.

These shooters included Malcolm Whitehead, Kellie Peterson, Matt Lucas, Glenn Crowe-Owen, Matt Loin, Leigh Peterson and Bec Kober, while Wayne Gurney was the only person who shot two.

The flush shoot was run as an optional extra challenge for shooters as teams of two faced 50 targets in 90 seconds.

Bellinger and Leigh Peterson made an excellent team to score 47/50 which saw them share first place with Matt and Michael Jones.

Second place went to president Herb Whitehead and his partner.

As it was the end of year shoot the years aggregate prizes were also presented on the day.

The honour of ‘off-the-gun’ high gun went to Bellinger, while Herb Whitehead took home the ‘handicap’ high gun.

The women’s honours were presented to Tasha Bellinger.

In the Veteran category, Gurney was crowned the victor, while the Super veterans was won by Kevin Dyson.

Junior Mason Patzel took out his grade with the trophy, with the young up-coming shooter Shak VonStanke took out the Sub Juniors.
