BLGC: Novelty round adds to festive fun

CHRISTMAS CHEER: Women at the Blue Lake Golf Club enjoy the festive season.

WITH Christmas fast approaching, the Blue Lake Golf Club women hosted a fun day which consisted of a nine-hole competition with a twist.

There was only one division and the format was stroke.

The first order of the day was to use a seven iron until on the green on the first hole.

When teeing off on the par 3 fifth hole if the first tee shot was not satisfactory, another could be used to improve chances for the pro-shot.

Lastly on the ninth hole only a sand iron or pitching wedge could be used until reaching the green.

All this added up to a few laughs along they way and the final twist was the winner was determined by a scoring system based on the number of putts on each hole – 0 putts was worth five points, one putt four, two putts three, but three and four putts were minus four and five points, making for an interesting final result.

The eventual winner was Bev Pascoe.

Prizes were handed out for Wednesday and Saturday’s chip-in’s (ferrets) and birdies won by Pascoe, Marlene Lingham and Josie Ashby respectively.

The pro-shot was won by Viv Wilson.

The day was finished in style with a lunch and the women’s captain Sue Agars wished everyone a safe and happy Christmas, including Life Members, Judith Collins, Nancy Whitehead and Rhonda Ferguson who were in attendance.

Today will be an 18-hole stableford competition for the women at no cost, with no prizes.

There is also a reminder of the club’s annual Christmas ambrose and for more information please ring the club.
